I want those characters in an M rated GTA type version of the Mario universe where you can splatter opponents into blood and gore using your boots or giant hammers or tortoise shells, or watch them scream in agony as they incinerate into ashes by the fireballs you throw at them. That would be messed up. It would appeal to the hardcore crowd though....

I always thought it would be fun to use Wario for this. Even if they don't quite go as far as you're suggesting, violence wise, I wouldn't mind seeing an open-world Wario game where you run around, body-slamming the crap out of its residents, shaking them down for money. Maybe robbing some Mushroom Kingdom banks, making a quick getaway on your motorcycle/in your muscle car. Geeze, this game practically makes itself. Grand Theft Wario.

Wario used to be like that back in the day. I fondly remember his first game which was on the spinach GB. You went around beating the crap out of enemies and stealing their loot, and then at the end of the game there was like some treasure room with everything you stole. Since then his image has been toned down a lot with the WarioWare games and all that. He isn't as bad ass as he used to be.

BTW, maybe that's something Retro should do. Wouldn't they be able to take the stagnant Wario franchise and revitalize it into something awesome again? Its a shame there's only one Retro, because there are so many old franchises which could really use their touch.

WarioWare is his greedy company to make lots of cash! In any case, all Wario Land games are like what you described so who cares if he behaves a bit differently in a spin-off series (though I don't see it, in fact I find Wario's gotten more crude over time).

I wouldn't mind a Wario GTA type game where you were free to beat up people and steal from them. Of course, it couldn't have graphic violence or swearing or anything because Nintendo won't do that. But let's say it had a T rating or a rating just under T but still a bit more than E.
