As Nintendo described, this week's Virtual Console/Ware takes us high up into the air, back onto solid land, and deep into watery depths. All this and more, from the comfort of your own home.
As we have a sighting of a Virtual Console release, what better place to start? The rumoured Aero The Acrobat, previously seen on SNES, surfaces for 800 Wii Points ($8). Aero, our titular acrobat, works in a circus, but when the evil Edgar Ektor seizes control it is up to him to battle against evil and use his tricks to defeat Ektor's henchmen. The game was published by Sunsoft and developed by Iguana Entertainment, a company sadly no longer in existence.
WiiWare will be of interest to many this week, with the anticipated Dive: The Medes Island Secret from Cosmonaut Games. We here at NWR were so excited for this title that we posted a news article about the upcoming announcement of a release date. Ship treasure hunting will cost you 1,000 Wii Points ($10).
The second WiiWare release is an oddity due to the fact it has Wii Zapper support, should anyone be looking for a second use for the peripheral aside from Link's Crossbow Training. Heavy Fire: Special Operations takes you into a military war zone in the Middle East with vehicle missions, increasingly powerful weapons, and world rankings for high scores. Teyon's title comes in at 500 Wii Points ($5).
Finally, we have the handful of DSiWare releases. 500 DSi Points ($5) gives you access to a selection of three titles. Face Pilot: Fly With Your Nintendo DSi Camera! is now available in North America, having seen a European release last month. Tilting your head controls the game's glider as the DSi camera tracks your position. We saw similar elements during E3 in Tech Demo: Face Ace for 3DS.
Gameloft's Crystal Monsters places you in a monster battling and collecting world with the goal of becoming the best Monster Breeder. Not an unfamiliar concept, but it throws in customisation of three of your critters using DSi camera photos. The multiplayer Puffins: Let's Race!, from Other Ocean Interactive, is a head-to-head competition for Fastest Flyer, with themed power-ups on eight different tracks.
After last week's Cats, Ubisoft tries out Petz Hamsterz Family, teaching us all-important hamster care facts, such as never to put your domesticated mammal in the microwave, for 800 Points ($8). Featurez Editor and dog lover (note: not literally) James Jones chimes in again, with "I heart Corgiz", but Petz developer Andrew Mayer has previously noted that gamers don't know what they want in games, so this has ensured such a title will never come to be.
The budget title of the week is Tasuke's Absolute BrickBlaster for 200 DSi Points ($2). This features Arkanoid-style brick breaking with a twist, including missions and special items.
Concluding, this is the last week of Big Name Games for WarioWare: DIY. The folks at Treehouse bring us their final set of downloadable microgames.
