The top of the disc is scratched and the damn thing won't play?
« on: February 05, 2015, 08:15:50 AM »
What the hell is this ****! The bottom is in pristine condition but there are some flaws in the art on the disc and now it won't load (and its more than one game) When did this become a thing or is it just my luck?

I've heard (but have no proof) that the top of a disc is actually more vulnerable than the bottom because there are fewer protective layers and because damage to the disc art can make the disc unreadable very easily.

Are the scratches on top actually going down to the data layer, or just some of the disc art seems to be missing? If the latter, would one of those self-print CD labels fix the problem? Might be easier/cheaper to just replace the whole disc though... especially since I don't have any idea if a label would do anything to help.

I know this doesn't help, but what game was it? Hope it wasn't an expensive one.

Here we go.  This is for a CD but the principle hasn't changed for any of the optical disks, http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/cd1.htm

I know the data is on the top layer but I've never in 4 generations of disc based games or 500 DVD/Blu-rays ever have an issue with top scratches. I'm going to have to do some shady ****.

Time to buy a used gamestop game and return it because it doesn't work.

Are you suggesting he commit fraud?
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

We don't know that for sure. He could've just decided to tell us what he was up to that day much like Nile Boogie told us what was going on in his life by telling us of a problem he's going through in getting his Wii U to read games.

In addition to mentioning that he'd be going to GameStop, he then added a complaint about having to return the game later because it doesn't work which must be a common issue he goes through. A sort of sarcastic complaint, if you will. It doesn't surprise me. I hear a lot of people commit fraud by buying working games and then returning broken ones they owned and were wanting to replace in a sneaky manner. Dude probably has to go back and forth to GameStop a lot because of a lot of other people with devious minds. Look how fast UncleBob came up with the idea of committing fraud.

The point is don't be so quick to judge. You're trying to skew things to your theories when there are many other perfectly reasonable explanations on what RedBlue means.

 :confused;   Really?
I have an explanation. It rhymes with dick.
Oh wait... is it rhyming when you just use the same word?
Rappers get away with it so I'll say yes.

No he is right. I'm going to do exactly that with one exception, I will tell them upfront what I'm doing so they damage out the the disc. OR I got the 3 dollar warranty. Either or

Wii U discs do feel like they're made of a "softer" material than other discs, so I do wonder about them... My friend accidentally dropped a disc taking it out of the case, and it landed on its side when it hit the floor. There was a teeny-tiny dent in the rim of the disc, and this was enough to prevent it from working, giving a disc-read error trying to boot it.
