Logitech have announced that they are currently producing a wireless keyboard for Wii. Unlike the Wii Remotes, the wireless keyboard won't connect with Bluetooth, but through wireless USB. The mini-receiver plugs into the Wii console and can be stored in the back of the keyboard when not in use.

The keyboard will use 2.4 GHz technology and will have special system keys such as Zoom In and Out, Forward and Back, Quit and OK. These are included for browsing the various Wii Channels. The keyboard will also be similarly styled to other Wii accessories with a white, polished finish and slim design.

The Logitech Cordless Keyboard for Wii will be available at retail outlets in early August with a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Logitech Introduces Keyboard for Wii Internet Channel, Upcoming Chat-Oriented Games

Licensed by Nintendo, Logitech Cordless Keyboard for Wii Enables Natural Typing for Easy Communication, Browsing, Searching

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--To make it easier for you to communicate with your friends and family on your Wiiâ„¢ game console, Logitech (SWX:LOGN) (NASDAQ:LOGI) today introduced the new Logitech® Cordless Keyboard for Wiiâ„¢ – licensed by Nintendo – a must-have accessory for chat-oriented games and the Wiiâ„¢ Internet Channel. With its compact, slim design and 2.4 GHz wireless technology, Logitech’s new keyboard for Wii enables a natural typing experience for easy communication, browsing and searching – even from your favorite easy chair.

''One of the big reasons Wii has been so successful is the social element of the games and applications,'' said Ruben Mookerjee, Logitech’s director of product marketing for gaming. ''Our new keyboard helps families experience the Internet in the living room – and it will make chatting with online friends simple in popular games, such as Animal Crossing.''

The Logitech Cordless Keyboard for Wii provides special system keys – such as Zoom In/Out, Forward/Back, Quit and OK – making it even easier to use your favorite game console to communicate with your friends, surf the Web, read the news, check the weather, browse Internet videos and send e-mail.     The keyboard complements the clean, stylish appeal of the Wii game console and Wii remote with its polished white finish and elegant, living-room design. And to provide you with a comfortable typing experience, the keyboard’s primary keys are full size. However, the compact, slim design is also small enough to blend into the living room and sit comfortably on your lap.

The Logitech Cordless Keyboard for Wii is easy to set up and put away. Just plug the mini-receiver into the console and the keyboard is ready to use. And when you’re finished using it, the receiver snaps into the back of the keyboard.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Cordless Keyboard for Wii is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in August. The suggested retail price in the U.S. is $49.99.

More and more peripherals just keep coming don't they? I feel like I've spent more on peripherals than actual games at this point. One day the Wii will just be a suit that you can wear- Wii Mech!

What devices does the Wii allow to connect to it via Bluetooth? I wonder if any other Bluetooth or RF wireless devices will work.

This may just be a plain old keyboard that is Wii branded and with the price jacked up, like they do with the ethernet cables.

RF wireless works because it uses a USB devices connected to the computer/wii.  If it uses one of those, then the device it's connected to  it doesn't even know it's a wireless keyboard, it just knows it's a keyboard.  It will work.

$50 is pretty steep . Wireless is nice but I don't really plan on keyboarding to much on the Wii when I have the computer just a room away

Would a Bluetooth adaptor work for Bluetooth keyboards/mice?
