This was a great read! I followed the VGC action from Worlds on YouTube (at least what I could). I really want to go to one eventually.

I think Pokémon has a legit shot at being a top esport. I think it's easier to follow than FPSes and fighting games. The mechanics are also pretty easy to get ahold of, especially if the audience has familiarity with the gameplay.

Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

Bad game names?
#Pokemonmastersex

That was hilarious. The game slightly rebranded after introducing a new feature, and no one thought through the hashtag. A wound so self-inflicted you have to believe it was intentional, avant-garde marketing.

I didn't know Vermillion City was based on Yokohama. When that came up in the trailer, I was pretty surprised.

I gotta admit, that isn't the bomb word that I expected Khushrenada to choose. Which also means that he outwitted me as well, gah! Targeting Nickmitch is pretty cruel though. :(

When Insanolord first sent me a pm to select the bomb word, he hadn't posted this thread yet so I didn't know what the rotation was. I thought since I was selecting and the first one to sign-up that maybe Order.RSS would be the first to choose a safe word and I thought I'd try Oates as something he might pick on a lark. When the thread was posted, I found out that he would actually be the last to select a safe word that round. That's why I made the post that I wouldn't be worried until the person I named in my pm (Order.RSS) had selected and successfully chosen a safe word... since that would mean only the bomb would have been left for me.

A likely story!

I'm also really interested in the AEW game. I haven't played a wrestling game in a while, so it'd be nice to get back into one.

I think the last wrestling game I played was way back to WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 at a neighbors house in 2015 for the Wii.

Just haven't been interested in the WWE 2K games to be honest.

I think the last wrestling game I played was RetroMania Wrestling. I didn't really take to it, however. Before that, it's been a whole lot of nothing.

I also haven't been interested in the WWE 2K series. It just seemed sterile compared to the days of old, from WCW vs NWO to Here Comes the Pain. The naming convention kind of robbed the games of personality to me. I almost got WWE 2K20, but the reviews made me think twice. And then WWE Battlegrounds just didn't do it for me.

10. Dragon Quest Builders 2
9. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
8. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (+the DK DLC)
7. Splatoon 2
6. Hades
5. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
4. Metroid Dread
3. Super Mario Odyssey
2. Pokémon Legends: Arceus
1. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This was tougher than I expected. I came up with a list of games I played the most (both time-wise and completion-wise), and then I tried to sort the list by quality. After 100%-ing Kirby, I knew it had to make the top 10, but it could be cracking the top 5 because of some recency bias. I think I owe Part Time UFO an honorable mention as well because I got pretty close to getting all the medals or w/e. I think Tetris Effect: Connected can also work its way onto this list over time. I've only played it a bit, but it's left quite the impression.

Damnit! On top of being the first out, I have to suffer with giving Khushrenada the satisfaction!

Going with Oates. You can't have a nutritious breakfast with just Hall.

The removal of the unskippable announcement videos might be the change I'm most excited about. It sounds like they really listened to what fans wanted in a new game, especially with the match-making. I don't think voice chat was mentioned. But the mobile app is back, so maybe.

The tri-color turf war seems really interesting. The 4 v 2 v 2 format will make for interesting gameplay. I'm excited about the Splatfest demo.

This has nothing to do with the podcast, but I feel that Lindemann is partially responsible for this:

BP:WF just seems like more transition/setup than a culmination film. It seems like it'll be introducing a number of characters to set up for Phase 5, but I don't know if that's a big "event" film. Nothing within this phase has really built towards anything we've seen of BP:WF. It feels more like Multiverse of Madness was the "event" film of this phase and BP is more of the Ant-man role, though to a bigger degree.

Valentina was recruiting for the Thunderbolts.

I meant more for the hero's side, but I agree that's what she's doing. I thought it was more Dark Avengers, but it seems like MCU will mix the two a bit. I wonder if she's working for or with Ross on that or how they'll bring him in and if they'll do Red Hulk.

Wong keeps showing up to recruit for.... Something.

I haven't seen Shang-Chi yet, but I know Wong was in it. It makes more sense for him to be recruiting more for the mystical side of the MCU than the Avengers side. I think by the end of Cap4, Sam and Strange will likely be on the recruiting mission.

118
What I learned from that trailer was that Nintendo could've named a course "New Donk Minute" but chose not to.

119
The phases are definitely shorter and no longer punctuated with Avengers movies. I do think that Thunderbolts will be the "Avengers" of Phase 5, but not having a team-up movie in Phase 4 feels weird. It seems like this would've been the place for Thunderbolts with maybe a Young Avengers movie at the end of Phase 5. I think it feels directionless because there isn't really a team just yet, and it's unclear who will put that team together and why with everyone off doing their own thing.

The shotgun blasts with sort of a yo-yo-ing effect were so cool to see on screen. It helped make Jane's Thore feel like her own iteration of the character and not just a copypasta. And having that tie into the ending was a good moment.

I wonder if they can bring her back from Valhalla or possibly pull in a variant from the multiverse. There's precedent for resurrection in the comics, and we know their souls are somewhere.

I'd be down to see an extended cut of the movie. I felt the film had an "about right" runtime. There was quite a bit of plot, and I didn't feel like anything took too much time. I would've liked to spend more time in the god city, though. As an aside, I really had to pee by the end of it, so any more scenes might've hurt the experience.

As a matter of fact, why don't we do a list of good Netflix Originals, that were cut short and should've continued. I've already gone first.

GLOW. It's got an 82 on Metacritic and got canceled after 3 seasons.

It is hilarious to think how Netflix completely fell behind in an industry they created. The failure to either innovate further or follow successful market trends is astounding.

For example, they have very few ongoing franchises in properties that they own. They already lost the Marvel shows, and most other things they're pushing now are either one-offs (e.g., Inventing Anna) or licensed (e.g., Castlevania). Meanwhile, their competition is building themselves on properties they hold exclusively. Then they kill off shows for not meeting their internal metrics despite minimal marketing and pushing the entire season out at once. It takes time for shows to find their audience, and not everyone is going to binge-watch whole seasons of new shows the week it comes out if they've never heard of them.

Meanwhile, the week-by-week strategy has been working for Disney+, HBO, etc. Yet Netflix, until recently, still felt that dumping whole seasons all at once was the winning move. It's all more frustrating when you remember that Netflix originally had their bread buttered by shows like Lost and Breaking Bad. The latter of which needed multiple seasons before it really caught on with audiences, and the former of which relied on the week-to-week hype to maintain popularity. I just don't get how they came to the conclusion that audiences primarily want to binge and that shows needed to catch on immediately.

I might try this out. My brother is a big fan of the series. I'm not really into baseball, but I'd like to see how it is. I almost jumped when Neal gave it a 9, but I was still slightly reluctant.

I watched Thor recently. This one finally got me back in theatres. It was good! Could be my favorite of the Thor movies. I'll keep spoilers light since I'm not sure if anyone other than BnM has seen it.

Overall, it's pretty consistently funny. I really liked the characterization of Thor they're running with. Also, Jane's new abilities with Molijnir were really cool. I'm glad they didn't just go with having the hammer be fixed, and the explanation for how she can wield it was really good.

The ending wasn't what I expected. I thought Jane's Mighty Thor would be the Thor going forward. (I haven't caught up with their actor contract news, I just assumed we were moving on from the original cast.)

I really liked the setup for the next Thor. When the trailers showed that other gods existed, I was hoping they'd introduce a character that they eventually got around to showing in the mid-credits scene.

Was MMBN5:Double Team DS just the two MMBN5 games in one? That's the version I played, but I don't remember if it was just the two games together or if there was any bonus content like in the Pokémon series.

I also never played MMBN6, so I'm excited about this.

According to NWR's page for MMBN5: Double Team it combines "both the GBA games of the same series and adding additional features, you'll be able to play with characters from both games and battle wirelessly."

Ah, ok. Thanks! Kind of a bummer not to get that version in here, but I guess the collection still gives most of the experience.

This looks like another great MM Collection. Little sad to not see Network Transmission or that terrible GB game in here, though, much like I was hoping to see Command Mission in the X Collection.

Kind of disappointing not to see the GCN game be included. It's a part of the series and the only iteration with Bass, iirc.
