Topic: Hot Girls of Jeopardy

Oh, is it the usual time for Jeopardy? Well, let’s get started and see how many of these clues I can answer.

[Khushrenada]

Whoa! Stop the show! This contestant has already won my heart. Who is this goddess, you may now be wondering yourselves? Her name is Johanna Schaufeld. She comes from the Bronx, New York and is a piano technician and woodworker. I love it! Take that, Jenny from the Block! Johanna’s a way more interesting mix of brains and beauty. Well, I now know who I want to see win today.

Alex is ready to start the show and introduce the opening categories but Johanna seems a bit shy. I’m getting vibes of the Hateno shop girl in Breath of the Wild who awkwardly hides in the corner. You can do it, Johanna! I’m sure anyone watching with good eyesight is rooting for you.

[Khushrenada]

A couple questions in and Johanna gets in and on the board. She's all smiles and so am I.

[Khushrenada]

Unfortunately, she then gets a wrong answer knocking her down into the minuses. It seems to throw her off her game a bit as she shifts around a bit as though embarrassed and trying to hunker back down into the game.

That wrong answer coupled with being beat on the signaling device has kept her pretty quiet through half of the first Jeopardy round and now it is time to break for commercials. Fortunately, neither of the other contestants has been able to build up much of a lead at this point either.

Normally, I’d just skip through the interviews to get back to the trivia but we’re not doing that today! Not when Johanna from the Bronx is lighting up the screen. Now she’s got to face Alex head on in an interview and I fear it’s just going to keep her further off her game. Love the shyness of looking down while Alex speaks.

We already know that she’ a piano technician and woodworker so how much more can Johanna endear herself to us? Well, she’s also a big fan of crosswords and calls herself a crosswords completionist.

[Khushrenada]

Alex asks her about a dream/aspiration she’s got regarding her hobby of crosswords.

[Khushrenada]

She wants to have a Crossword she wrote/designed appear in The New York Times. Look at the joy on her face on imagining such an accomplishment. Better than going to the moon! I get it. I have a goal of someday completing all the puzzles in Crosswords 3DS and DS with an excellent rating. This interview is just further proof that Johanna has got it together in life.

Alex moves on and Johanna looks down with the interview over. Is she worried she said too much? Not enough? Is Alex going to steal her idea and submit a crossword of his own? These interviews can play mind games with you. Don’t worry, Johanna. You just proved you’re as kick butt as we all thought from the moment you were introduced.

Ah, good stuff! As Alex continues his interview shuffle we get a glimpse of Johanna and she is studying the board. That’s it! Start thinking of some possible questions for those categories and remaining questions. Time to get yourself back into this.

We get to the end of the Jeopardy round and Johanna has made some progress going from -$400 to $3,000 but she’s still in third so she’s still got some work ahead of her in the Double Jeopardy round. But at least the rocky start appears to be over and she’s finding a groove.

Johanna goes first in Double Jeopardy and, while the other contestants are looking at Alex, she’s got her eyes on the camera. Is she feeling tense? Is the camera lens suddenly a reminder of all the people at home watching her? Put it out of your mind and focus, girl!

With all 6 categories now announced, Johanna has first pick. Like Dave Bowman entering the monolith and exclaiming “My God! It’s full of stars!”,  Johanna also seems to be in awe of the responsibility now resting on her shoulders to get this right and seize the game.

Johanna goes with Math and Science because she’s a boss and it pays off with her then immediately ringing in and getting the question correct. Look at the stance as she gives Alex the correct response. All business!

[Khushrenada]

Things get even better! Continuing in the category, Johanna gets the first Daily Double in the round! She wants to speak and make a wager but Alex won’t shut up. C’mon, Alex! It’s Johanna’s time to shine. No one wants to hear from you, Alex. Not when we've got Johanna around.

[Khushrenada]

Since she’s made of awesome sauce, Johanna wagers everything and that’s why there is an exclamation point at the end of Jeopardy! as Johanna lives up to the show’s name. All that’s left is to now face the question and see if this risk will help or harm her.

And it’s a pretty easy question for the $2000 mark. If you don’t know it then you probably aren’t Johanna who’s all smiles as she knows the answer right away.

She stares down Alex and hits him with a correct “What is Pangea?” response because Math and Science can’t slow down the oncoming freight train of greatness that is Johanna.

[Khushrenada]

Just like that, Johanna is in first place and ready to keep these good times rolling.

[Khushrenada]

Unfortunately, what Math and Science couldn’t do, Michelle does and that is slow Johanna’s role by beating her on the buzzer. We can see Johanna’s disappointment as she’s once again beat out by Michelle and it’s a face we’d see a couple more times in the round.

Now that’s the look of someone who realizes they don’t actually know the correct answer (technically question but question and answer get changed around a lot when describing Jeopardy so whatevs.) In desperation to finally ring in, Johanna realizes she should have actually made sure she knew the answer before doing so. Oh, Johanna. It’s a tight game! You have to careful not to get a trigger finger.

That mistake does give us a Johanna frazzleface though.

Unlike the first Jeopardy round, this doesn’t hold her back and Johanna gets back into the game and discovers the second Daily Double in the round!

Feeling some pressure, she tugs at her blouse while evaluating the scores and what she should risk. It’s late in the round. Will she be so bold as to risk it all again?

[Khushrenada]

No. She just goes for $4000 which is almost 40% of her total. Johanna puts on her game face and awaits to see what is hiding behind this second Daily Double clue.

[Khushrenada]

Uh-oh. Hearts have stopped beating. I don’t know the correct answer to this clue and it looks like Johanna might be stumped as well.

[Khushrenada]

Oh, phew! She’s smiling. She knows what this is and responds “What is Grey Gardens?” Ah, that’s what it is! Wonder if living in New York helped her with that.

[Khushrenada]

Johanna seems to give a bit of a cocky smirk after nailing a second Daily Double and I’m glad she’s got some swagger again.

[Khushrenada]

She also makes a glance up to the scores to take in that sweet feeling of reclaiming the lead.

[Khushrenada]

However, there’s still $5600 left on the board so the job isn’t over yet. Need a couple more correct responses to ensure holding on to this lead.

Sure enough. That pesky Michelle beat Johanna out on the signaling device and grabbed the lead heading into final. Johanna’s in the tricky second place and she’s clearly using all her math and science knowledge to figure out how to play this one.

The Final Jeopardy category is 1970’s Bestsellers and you can read the clue for yourself. I have to admit. This stumped me at first. Nothing jumped out at me from Silence in the Water and it got me thinking about Silence of the Lambs first. That got me thinking and wondering if Silence in the Water might be a suggestion of something with horror and the water but it could be romantic or something else. So then I switched gears and started thinking of 1970’s films. There are many times that a big bestseller will get a film adaptation. Thinking of 1970’s hit films that might have to do with Water I then quickly hit upon Jaws and that made the most sense to me and seemed like it would be the correct answer.

Oh no! Why is Johanna writing so much? Jaws is a very quick and simple word. She’s still writing as the music ends.

Alex gives further information about the answer and how the writer’s father, Robert Benchley who is a famous humorist, suggested the title “What’s That Noshing On My Leg?” Yeah, it’s got to be Jaws and Johanna’s got a look of someone regretting their answer. She’s looking down which is not signaling good vibrations to me. Jaws is confirmed the correct response after revealing the third place contestant’s response. It’s on to Johanna.

Awwww. The Hunt for Red October. I totally can get that since the sound of submarines is a factor in the novel as the various factions hunt and track the Red October while it tries to elude capture. But it was released in the 1980s! Awww. The dream of seeing Johanna return again as the returning champ is over. What did she wager?

A big gutsy wager which drops her down to third place. I think I might be expressing the same grimace at home that Johanna is displaying in the Jeopardy studio. Still, if Michelle knew it was Jaws then Johanna probably wouldn’t have been able to win.

Aarrgh! Too rub salt in the wound, Michelle did get the answer but she chickened out in her wager and went low. Had Johanna gotten the correct answer, she’d have won bigtime! This is the worst timeline.

All that’s left is the awkward handshake…

… and the wondering of what might have been. *sigh* It's never the hot ones who win.

Like Ulysses Grant and Robert E. Lee or Richard Nixon and Elvis Presley, we end with two titans coming together to shake hands. It’s like man aka Alex reaching out and touching God aka Johanna as pictured in the Sistine Chapel. Wait a sec… Johanna’s got a bird tattoo on her right wrist? Man, even as she says goodbye she continues to keep surprising!

…and as she looks down at her response, one more sigh as she mutters, “Tom Clancy, you’ve screwed me over AGAIN!” Man, if there was any contestant I thought would get 1970’s Bestsellers correct, I thought Johanna would be the one to do it. She’s got the look.

So ends the ballad/sage of Johanna. Gone but not forgotten. She may not have become the Champion at Jeopardy but she's definitely still a winner. If Zooey Deschanel ever wants to take being a-dork-able seriously then she should start by imitating Johanna here.

To be honest, I wasn't sure if Hot Girls of Jeopardy was the best title for this or if I should have gone with The Saga of Johanna but I thought I'd do a play off of IDK's Hot Girls of Twitch topic title and, maybe someday, there'll be another contestant worthy of mentioning in this thread. Hope the journey was thrilling for you. I have no idea how this is going to be received but I guess I'm about to find out.

Honestly, I just really liked the contestant. Sometimes there is a contestant that just captures your interest during the show and so there have been a few that, despite not winning, last on in the memories of fans. I feel like that is how I would be acting and reacting if I was on the show myself.
