That's pretty goddamn ace. I mean I have only played Metal Slud at the arcade, but I enjoyed it.

Plus 'more surprises', so who knows, maybe an all new 2d Metal Slug game?  I am into this big time!

ARTIFICIAL SUPPORT GET

Nah, I think the fact that this is the first time Metal Slug will appear on a Nintendo console, and it takes advantage of the Wiimote capabilities raises it a bit above that...

Regardless, we are still getting SNK games where before, we had none. If we got KOF XII and KOF: MI3, then we'd basically have exclusive SNK support (which is to good to be true!). This is still good news though, I think we are more likely to see Neo-Geo games on the virtual console now (Rage of the Dragons FTW!!!).
Currently Playing: Twilight Princess(Wii), Castlevania: PoR(DS), Mario vs. Donkey Kong2(DS), Wii sports(Wii)
Anticipating: Mario Galaxy(Wii), Blue Dragon(360), Dragon Quest:Swords(Wii), Dragon Quest IX (DS)

Anthology? Great, two weeks after I've paid 10€ for the PS2 version of Metal Slug 3.

This is spectacular news, man.  Hopefully there will be multiple control options (like, a "classic" mode), and perhaps this means that nintendo will get some KOF love in the future.

Neo Geo games on Wii would be great, and hey it can happen considering Wii already has more than just their own console games on it.

neo geo games would definately be great, and to me seems like a very good possibility. snk has a crapload of titles that never had a huge audience becouse of their high prices, and the virtual console would be a great way to find a new market for them.

What I'm worried about is if MS gets that universal arcade emulator thing working on live... what was it called again? MAME? Yeah...

This is rather interesting, it turns out we'll be able to use the Gamecube and Classic controller to play this game.

To my absolute and utter surprise and amazement, the SNK booth had two kiosks with fully playable near-final builds of Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii. It completely rocks. I checked out the options and there are like 6 or 7 different control schemes. You can play with the nunchuck attached using the analog stick (lefty or righty), in this mode you "throw" the Wiimote forward to throw grenades, which is kinda cool because you can hold down the fire button (B) while you chuck so you don't lose your stream of bullets for longer than you have to, it only takes a very slight movement). You can hold the controller sideways, NES style... but in this mode I couldn't figure out how to throw grenades. There are also control scheme options for VC controller and GameCube controller as well.
I’m gonna have you play every inch of this game! - Masahiro Sakurai

Makes sense since these games were not designed for motion control.  SNK seems to be putting a lot of attention to what most companies would consider a quick 'n' dirty cash grab.  Midway, Sega, Capcom and pretty much everyone else should pay attention.  Six or seven control schemes?  Including Metal Slug 6 at the last minute?  That's the work of a company that gives a damn about what they're doing.

The Wii is their only option for "next-gen" development as the other consoles require HD support which isn't easy with 2d games. I don't think they can afford throwing an asset like the entire set of released Metal Slug games away with a quick and dirty port because they wouldn't get a second chance that generation.
