TalkBack / Re: Sega: MadWorld a

I think if the wii had a trophy/achievement system like the 360/ps3, it could have gone a long way to increasing replay value as well as getting players to try more exotic attacks and combos in the game. It's easy to spam the same attacks over and over, but there is a decent amount of variation for a player willing to explore.
All the more so with a point system. I don't think it's just an age thing, it's also the lack of an online community and shared gameplay experience that hurts a game like madworld.

does track sharing require friend codes? or can they be shared from a hub website or a delivery system like boom blox or blastworks?

Didn't capcom recently release a greatest hits version of the ps2 version at a $20 price point?

I had an error when I registered a couple days ago (using firefox 3).  Try requesting your password to be resent (there is an option at the log on screen).
Once I did that, I followed the link in the email and am able to log on and download content without problem.

the game doesn't have to look amazing, but the trailer on the nintendo channel looks especially terrible. If the game looks better than that, either put up a good looking trailer or don't bother with a trailer at all.

This speaks to a larger issue, all the games they show should have trailers, but the trailers should be marketing tools, not 1:07 of random images and moving pictures.

Ubi has to be frustrated with the relatively poor sales of No More Heroes. It is  a solid game with mature themes, was well reviewed and did not have much competition.
The z series has to be a reaction where cheaply made games sell just as well, if not better when targeted to different people. The people this upsets didn't buy no more heroes in the first place, aren't going to buy these ne titles anyway and number few from a sales perspective.
Part of this is on the consumer for not buying great games.
But some of the blame is also on Nintendo for greenlighting games that graphically give the console a bad reputation and also play terribly.
In the same breath, Capcom has to be disappointed when a fantastic game like Okami doesn't sell well. Yet their reaction isn't to put down Wii players, even if they might be thinking the exact same thoughts in their head.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii don't need a hard drive.
« on: May 09, 2008, 11:35:38 AM »
If you don't buy vc titles, or wiiware titles, the internal memory is enough.
But why would Nintendo have a barrier to entry to enjoy these games or limit future titles?
Let's say there is a push to release sega cd or sega saturn titles on the vc or wiiware- that would be fantastic, but severely difficult due to current memory issues.
Also, Nintendo is punishing those gamers who buy up multiple vc titles the most. And you would have to think that if people are less likely to buy wiiware titles because of storage issues, developers are less likely to support the service.
Again, these are scenarios that hurt gamers.
Let a usb harddrive be easily recognizable by the wii menu and the benefits drastically outweigh any worries over the negs.

I agree with kororinpa because it can't be replicated elsewhere, and okami- because it uses the wii sensibly and effectively without going overboard.
I am waiting for sports titles that really nail the wii sports experience, but with graphics, customization, real players etc. I think the controls on existing games can be improved. but Wii sports as tech demo and marketing tool fully realizes the potential of a new gamer.
I think mario kart fully realizes the online potential- the only shortcomings of voice chat or easy friend invites being downfalls of the system itself.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Your Online Experience with Brawl
« on: April 07, 2008, 12:10:19 PM »
This is a sad thread to read. Don't have brawl, but have strikers. Didn't play too much online but don't recall it being that laggy.
What really worries me is mario kart. I'm really looking forward to online matches, and if they have as much trouble as brawl, it will be a broken feature.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why does Nintendo hate the Game Cube?
« on: January 31, 2008, 08:47:11 AM »
Nintendo doesn't hate the cube, but it was a bit of a loser.
In addition to generating confusion, there is little desire to tarnish the wii brand.
Perhaps the true reason is to establish better 3rd party relations. Cheaper reissues of gc games don't take sales away from 1st party mario and zeldas, they take sales from third party kororinpas and no more heroes.

1 game is completely unacceptable, all the moreso when the releases this week are fairly barren. There are simply too many great backlist games out there for a 1/week schedule- and this after a series of 2/week releases.

This game has gotten no attention, and I'd like to see some reviews. Puzzle Quest came out of nowhere and I'm optimistic here.

Wonderful to see games that never made it to the us getting closer to release. There are tons of excellent games, especially snes rpgs, that deserve to be played.
It feels like Janus/Criterion opening the gates to greatness.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rygar on Wii
« on: August 30, 2007, 09:43:10 AM »
The idea of rygar wii is full of promise. But it needs to be built from the ground up for the wii, maye even turned into a 1st person perspective.
These screens are ugly, rygar doesn't have to look as good as ninja gaiden ps3, but it should look at least as good as ninja giaden xbox. I can't help but think it will tank, wich is a shame because rygar could be really, really great.

this is great, wii tennis and wii pong are fun, but seriously crippled. I hope rockstar nails the controls.

A couple weeks ago, the wii corrupted the data on my gamecube nyko 64mb card. The card previously had been rock solid for the four years or so I had it with no problems whatsoever. Maybe it is the fact that the system gets much hotter.
Same as you, where I lost basically all the saves. Annoying for a half dozen titles, while the majority had simply been finished game saves.
After I reformatted, the card worked.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Life Span
« on: June 15, 2007, 04:26:40 AM »
Nobody has a crystal ball, but you can look at other things and create a more informed guess. The xbox was the most powerful system, but it had the shortest lifespan, while the ps2 continues to perform strongly.
No doubt sony would have been happy riding the ps2 at least another year or 2, but they think (right or wrong) that system power is still a top3 selling point.
If nintendo takes the lead with the wii, though, they've already shown they are not in that mindset. Much as they rode the gameboy for years, if the wii breaks 50 million, its traction is simply too great to be abandonded in a mere five year. Like the nes or snes, could then go 7 or even 8 years with a redesign coming in those last two years. In the same breath, development costs for the wii in those later years will be if anything, cheaper than they are now. Especially when hurdles like control are smoothed out. The ps3 and 360 development costs could continue to balloon as they focus on grander and grander projects.
The wildcard really is the type of gamer that the wii brings in. The average movie watcher doesn't care what the specs of their dvd player is, they just want to watch the movie. If the wii can get to that person, and to a point where gaming is as entrenched as the dvd, all bets are off.

23
wait, when did the nes (in the us) stop having a bundled game? or the snes/genesi for that matter?
I thought for the longest time a pack-in game was the norm.

As for a pricedrop, maybe a year from now people can start debating that, or if the wii should come bundled with some vc points. Even then, I don't see a price drop before holiday 2008.

very interesting, considering Gardner appears a strong supporter of the wii. I'm fine with a delayed wii version, as long as they are taking the time to nail wiimote gameplay

rygar wii will live or die on the wiimote controls.
I found the early level designs and boss battle in rygar- especially the catacombs to be dreadful. Good to see games built from the ground up for wii.
