I think Nile is extrapolating with an assumption of continued sales growth. While the possibility is there, the current lineup may not do the job. I have a feeling the rest of the year's releases will merely serve as maintenance of the current sales volume to a certain degree.

There will certainly be a bump for the holidays/release of Smash Bros. Between now and November, though, will probably be pretty rough.

I think the bump will be enough to even out the entire FY because there will be slumps like the first half of this year and August/September if MarioKate and eShop Olson can't keep pace until Hyrule Warriors releases.

Nobody's buying the system for Hyrule Warriors, though. I imagine that's going to have a fairly small niche made up primarily of people who've had a Wii U for a while now.

I'm merely using that as the marker for the beginning the the major fall/holiday window for Nintendo when sales of everything tends to jump up until January. I agree it will be more of a service title. But service titles can still "service" their sales momentum when coupled with other releases.

Some Nintendo fans could be holding out for one or two more titles they would buy to get a system and this fall/winter may be the cusp that brings them over.

HOLY WOW MUCH STUPID ( I did 510,000 x 12 months = X )

So its really 170K /monthly World Wide? That's well not so good huh. I guess if you factor holiday Nov/Dec being about 1mil us and 500k for the rest of the world, then 3.2m by years end it a solid #.

I still stick by my 2 Million number.  Simply because we saw a spike for Mario Kart and I think we will get a similar sized spike for Smash Bros with a lull in between so it will average to the same in a 3 month period.

Hyrule Warriors is next week in Japan. I'll take a stab at the first weeks numbers.

HW 195 - 210k.

WiiU 25-29k

I expect those who waited to hop on the WiiU this week with a good bumb for Mario Kart 8 as well.

Smash Bros comes out during the holiday where Nintendo systems always get larger spikes.  Last year the Wii U did over 700k in America alone during the November and December holiday season and another 500k in Japan during the same time.  With the lineup being much stronger this year during that same time, the spike for Smash Bros should be much larger as well.

You know, it's just GameFaqs, which has always had a bit of Nintendo lean in it, but, yesterday's PotD is interesting.

14% of voters plan to have an Xbox One by the end of the year.
40% of voters plan to have a PS4 by the end of the year.
42% of voters plan to have a Wii U by the end of the year.

(an aside, 32% of voters plan on having none of these by the end of the year).

Although, by this poll of the day:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5588

10% of voters have an Xbox One.
25% of voters have a PS4.
33% of voters have a Wii U.
(Nearly 50% of voters have none of the above).

It's good to see Wii U on top somewhere, but man... 32% of gamers don't care about this generation?  Ouch.

Really, other than the Wii U, which other system has a library of games that warrants a purchase for people other than early adopters?  I say this as someone who jumped to get a PS4 once it was available.

If you base it on internet chatter (I know, real scientific), there seemed to be a lot of people claiming they were on the cusp of buying one, but were waiting for either the next Mariokart (out now), Smash Bros (Winter), or Zelda (2015lol).  Not to say the system is going to suddenly be the top seller, but they're certainly going to get some more owners as time goes on.

I've always viewed Mario Kart as the bigger system-seller, so I don't expect Smash Brothers to cause much of a spike, especially with the 3DS version around. The system will sell because everything sells around the holidays, but I'm not convinced it will sell 3.6 million by April 1st.

Late 3rd quarter and of course 4th quarter's sales are usually when console sales spike and it's going be interesting to see what the three manufactures are going to do.

Price reduction and holiday bundles usually do wonders with sales, hell even that installment plan MS had before could easily be a factor.

If I was Nintendo I would go with an $200 console (with gamepad) with $50 eshop credit.  And maybe an holiday bundle (limited edition) with a new color at $300 bundled with 3 games (one of those 1st party, one indie, one third party) and or course an extra wii u gamepro controller.

Last Christmas I wasn't even interested in a new game console, I had barely got my PS3 in August and I was homeless for most of December. This year assuming things keep going the way they are I will be getting either a Wii U or a PS4 for sure. I am leaning towards Wii U since E3 showed off some great games and I am hyped for Hyrule Warriors. The techie/geek in me wants a PS4 pretty bad just because though so we will see which one prevails. Either way I very seriously plan on getting one or the other assuming things keep going up.

I am not sure how much Toad will sell the system though. I think it looks like an amazing game but I think some sort of price cut might be in order but we will see.
