Majesco to release one-of-a-kind music game for Wii.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14963

MAJESCO ENTERTAINMENT, MASAYA MATSUURA AND RODNEY ALAN GREENBLAT PARTNER TO CREATE NEW GAME EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE Wiiâ„¢ SYSTEM

The Creators of ‘PaRappa the Rapper’ Return with Music-Based Video Game

EDISON, N.J., December 10, 2007 – Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of video games for the mass market, today announced a partnership with legendary multimedia musician and game designer, Masaya Matsuura, and famed New York artist Rodney Alan Greenblat, to develop and publish an original music-based video game scheduled for release in late 2008.  Creators of the highly acclaimed, best-selling PaRappa the Rapper series, Matsuura and Greenblat will bring their engaging gameplay and distinctive art style to the Wiiâ„¢ home video game system for the first time.

“Masaya Matsuura and Rodney Alan Greenblat are industry visionaries whose legacy was built on crafting groundbreaking, genre-defining entertainment experiences that everyone can enjoy," said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco. “We are incredibly excited to be working with talent of this caliber and believe our game shares the same broad mass market appeal as successful music-based products like Activision’s Guitar Hero and MTV’s Rock Band."

Adds Masaya Matsuura: “Majesco’s publishing know-how and retail relationships allow us to stay focused on creating a game that is conceptually unique and, above all else, fun. Working with Rodney is a true creative collaboration."

“Matsuura-san and I share similar artistic perspectives so I welcomed the opportunity to re-team with him and NanaOn-Sha to produce a one-of-a-kind music game designed from the ground up for the Wii system," said Rodney Alan Greenblat.

Yes!  I hope it doesn't stray too far stylistically from PaRappa, because that game is beautiful.

Having never played PaPrappa, I'm not sure what to think.  But between this and Samba de Amigo, I should be set.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I once saw a commercial for PaRappa and it irritated me so much that I could have punched a sleeping kitten out of agitation.

Other than that, I have no opinion on the game or the situation.

Which one was it? Was it the one with the random people rapping the game's songs? If so, I wouldn't judge the whole game because of it.

I personally love Parappa. I love the characters, the story, the songs and the surreality of it all. My main gripe is that the rhythm engine is confusing and needs work. For example, the game encourages you to do exactly as your teacher, but then the game punishes you because you weren't creative enough. And when you do freestyle it punishes you for ruining the song.

Its HARD to achieve a "perfect" and get the best rating.

I hope that the Parappa team creates a well balanced and fun rhythm engine

Parappa was a great game. Unjamma Lammy? Not so much.

Not giving my hopes up, it isn't like the creators of Parappa the rapper have done much of anything since the first game.

Unjammer Lammy was my first Parappa game and I honestly loved it. I missed out on the first one because I was a hardcore N64 fanboy back in the day, but when Unjammer was released I welcomed the PSone and couldn't get enough of it.

Parappa 2 was the big disappointment. The music was forgettable and the story was just too silly, even for Parappa's standards.

I guess that Unjammer Lammy was okay... but it had nowhere NEAR the charm, cohesiveness, zazz, and just plain freshness of the first one. But god yes Parappa 2... I never actually played that one but even from outside the Playstation Store in Son'ys Metreon in SF, CA the game looked out of whack...

Parappa was mellow, but the freestyle sucked.

Lammy was rockin', but not as awesome as Parappa, but it made up with it with a better freestyle.

Parappa 2 was a dissappoinment after having so many song options in Lammy, they took a step back with an awful freestyle engine, eliminating the chance of having a memorable song, but even if that was taken away, the songs, save small parts, were uninspired, and the story lacked the character of the first two games.

All-in-all, I think the 2nd Parappa was a Sony-induced corporate shill.  Or at least I hope that.  Very much.

No, it was a commercial with some of the characters themselves rapping.

Strangely enough, I too remember this. It evoked similar feelings for me too. I guess the commercial annoyed me so much it has scarred itself into my brain.

I'd still be willing to give the game a rent, but yeah, my initial reaction was less than positive.

Huh. That's weird. I do remember Parappa commercials being aired back when it was released, but the ones that I saw involved random people (most of them white people, mind you) rapping and doing badly and showed a quick clip of the song they are trying to rap.

PaRappa The Rapper and Final Fantasy VII were the biggest games that one year and the first two games I played on a rented PlayStation.

Being up against FFVII, well, I guess some people wouldn't've heard about PaRappa.  But it still surprises me for some reason.  That game still seemed pretty big, IMO.

I'm sure there are probably YouTube videos to brush up on your video game culture on.

Or, hey, where was the link to the live-action one?  I'll find that for you too if I find it again.

Thanks for the info!

I seriously don't think I've ever heard of the game before. Hmm.. 1997 eh? I remember I didn't pay much (any) attention to PlayStation during its life, and after Mario 64 I was in a bit of a gaming lapse. Maybe that's why.

Weird.

Ok, I watched those and all I can say for certain is that the game MUST have that "the noise doesn't bother the player but it bothers everyone else" stigma going for it.

Every time Parappa did the repeat sound of whatever had been said, it irritated me. Maybe there's something else to this game which I'm not seeing, but so far it looks like the type of game which would grate on my nerves.

You might like Um Jammer Lammy better, then.  I did.  Since you play the guitar in that one, there's no repeating the same things every time you play.
