La-Mulana Coming to North America Next Month
« on: August 29, 2012, 05:55:26 PM »

Fire up your Wii, the indie-retro side-scroller appears to have finally found a publisher in America.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31475

La-Mulana will arrive on the North American WiiWare shop on September 20, according to the game's profile listing on Nintendo's website.

However, it appears that it will be EnjoyUp! Games undertaking publishing duties in the west, not the WiiWare version's original publisher Nicalis. Nicalis announced in May that they had cancelled plans to bring the WiiWare indie title to both North America and Europe. However, a July posting on the website for the European PEGI ratings system suggested that EnjoyUp! Games was stepping in to bring it to those territories.

Nintendo's website lists La-Mulana with a price of 1000 Wii Points and an Everyone 10+ ESRB rating. The WiiWare version of La-Mulana was originally released in Japan in June 2011.

I can't believe this is actually happening, but it's great that it is. That game looked great in Giant Bomb's Quick Look of the PC version.  ****, I actually have to buy Wii points now for the first time in two years, ever since I used up the last of them buying Fluidity.

Will this be considered the last good WiiWare game?

Definitely picking this up...

But at this point, wouldn't it be better to launch this on 3DS eShop instead?

Will this be considered the last good WiiWare game?

Probably. I can't think of any other noteworthy game that's even been announced, let alone releasing in the near future.

And yeah, Shaymin. My NFR 03 1up seems very prophetic now.   ;)

I wasn't terribly impressed with the La-Mulana videoes I saw... but will buy anyway. It's not like Wii is offering much competition for my gaming budget and 3DS isn't putting up a fight either.

...

...

Retro City Rampage was confirmed as still coming for WiiWare, despite having no expectation of making a profit at this stage. Another game worth watching.

Nicalis can suck a fatty.  After raping Cave Story to death, they don't deserve to contribute to the game industry ever again.

That's seems pretty harsh. They went the extra mile with Cave Story on Wiiware and did the game justice, they released the fantastic VVVVVV on 3DS, released Nightsky on PC, and it seems to me that they worked pretty hard with Nigoro to get La-Mulana into a releasable state on WiiWare. I'd be very interested to hear more on exactly why La-Mulana failed Nintendo QA.

They're clearly taking the piss when it comes to the number of Cave Story releases, but it's not like you have to buy them. I think Nicalis has done quite alot of worthwhile work for indie developers, especially for such a small publisher.

I don't get the Nicalis/Cave Story hate.

Nicalis published the game in multiple formats on multiple platforms. Sure, they do it because profits are good... but people now have different options and can choose whichever one suits them best.

Free game on your PC? WiiWare release so you can play on your TV at home? Portable DSiWare/eShop version so you can play on the move? Deluxe 3D remake that officially goes over the top? All of those choices are available right now and it's up to you to decide which is the best way to play.

Options are great when they give consumers more choice. Nobody needs to buy them all, and fans can choose whichever release(s) they prefer.

Nicalis seems to take on more than they can chew, as they announce oodles of titles and then delay them a lot. We've been waiting for NightSky on a Nintendo platform years at this point. On the 3DS alone, it's been delayed almost an entire year. I mean, ****, I played that game on 3DS at E3. It's like done. I don't know what is up.
