Game Gear Titles Headed to the eShop
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:12:22 PM »

Shinobi, Dragon Crystal, and Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble will be the first Game Gear titles to hit the 3DS Virtual Console.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/29372

Sega Game Gear games are finally headed to the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Originally announced prior to the launch of the eShop, their release was reconfirmed today during the Nintendo Direct conference. The first three titles, Shinobi, Dragon Crystal and Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble will be released on March 14 in Japan and mid-March in Europe.

There was no mention of the Game Gear Virtual Console titles in Nintendo of America’s conference, but looking at precedent, it is likely that they will be release around the same time frame. Triple Trouble and Shinobi have already received ESRB ratings.

I think I remember it took 6 AAA batteries and the battery life on the Game Gear was so bad it only played for like a half an hour I believe. (Weather that is right or wrong I know the batter life was REALLY short.)

About 2 hours, which is still pathetic since it took so many batteries.

Glad to finally see a release date, though I have no interest in the games.

I think the Sega Nomad is the device that ran for 30 minutes on 6 AA batteries.

According to Wikipedia, it was 4 hours (5 on later models). Still extremely low.

Where did you find that? I looked it up just now and saw this:

The Nomad was bulky and was not power efficient, offering limited battery life (about 30 minutes)

I meant the Game Gear was 4 hours, not the Nomad.

During my brief flirtation with Game Gear ownership back in the mid 90s, I seem to recall that Triple Trouble was the best of the Sonic games I had, with Sonic Chaos being merely decent, and Sonic 2 being god-awful.

I may just pick up Triple Trouble, if only for that awesome music that plays during Sunset Park Act 3.

I'll hold out for the release of the GameGear TV tuner.

Its a shame the DSi and 3DS stripped out the GBA slot, because that could have probably been used for a DS TV Tuner accessory. I understand why Nintendo wanted to pull GBA compatibility, but I just wish they could have at least left the slot so we could have accessories like that and the Rumble Pak and Guitar Hero thing and so on.

Actually, the DS TV tuner only used the DS slot. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/unsj/index.html

They need to release Mortal Kombat 2 for the eShop only so I can once again play it while taking a bath.
