Ditto what Enner said on all accounts. Then again, all I would have emailed you about XCX was that the music is flawless, and a big old "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" to any claims that this is not accurate.

TalkBack / Re: Kim, Becky, and Yoshi's Woolly Art
« on: October 18, 2015, 12:14:19 AM »
Plus five thousand cool points to Kim for having about as many projects on the needles at one time as I tend to have. (Also, silently weeping thinking about rewinding all of those skeins of yarn.)

While the gameplay Yoshi's Woolly World is good, the art style really does push it over the top in terms of wow factor. I have such immense respect for the developers and artists in this game every time something new pops up and I run up to my TV to look at the actual construction of the new enemy or piece of landscape. I haven't seen a single thing in this game that doesn't look like an accurate representation of a knitted or crocheted item, and I can't imagine how much effort it took to create and render everything here.

I really hope to see other genres experiment more with unique art styles, since most of the games I can think of are platforming games. I can only imagine something like an open world adventure game in the style of a-ha's "Take on Me" music video.

Beautiful words, Neal.  I just come up grasping at straws when I try to put my thoughts in order.  Instead, I'll just honor his work by doing what I've always done: play games and love Nintendo.

I hope someone comes back on the show at some point to talk about Rhythm Heaven: The Best Plus. I just beat the game last week, and it really is the best Rhythm Heaven so far. All of the correct challenges were brought back from previous entries, and the new challenges are all a blast. Although it takes the game a while to bring on the remixes, they are all pretty amazing, particularly one featuring a song that is sung by Tsunku's daughter. I'll have my fingers crossed for a western release of this game, because it is not to be missed!

So for those who read Japanese what does the plate say?

It says Nintendo.  I would very much like that faceplate :x

Looks like it will be Nashville for me, as well.  It'll give me a good reason to visit home (Clarksville).

You know, I can't really blame you, Gui, for skipping the story segments of Bayonetta.  The story is pure campy nonsense, which was overwhelmingly appreciated by me, but it really struck me as peculiar given how the game is perceived.  I mean, you have Nintendo trying to push Bayonetta in Playboy and asking for her Link costume to be more revealing, but, seriously, the only people who should be physically attracted to Bayonetta are those who like their junk stepped on.  I can only hope that Nintendo figures out what they have their hands on and manage to get a Bayonetta challenge in the next season of RuPaul's Drag Race, because, honestly, it's self-explanatory who she appeals to when you spend five seconds looking at her.

Also, as daverhodus said, the stories do link together, and the second game features some big reveals that will make sense on their own, as the story manages to be self-contained, but they very heavily leverage the player having already made a connection with the characters.

TalkBack / Re: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call First Look
« on: September 11, 2014, 07:28:40 PM »
I actually imported a 3DS LL for the special edition Curtain Call console, and, in all fairness to Neal, this game is both fantastic and splendid.  Also, I will use this game as justification for a futile wish for Mystic Quest to migrate to the Wii U VC.  Those battle themes really bring back some memories.

I was really hoping that Sakurai had hidden a reveal in this demo, but I couldn't seem to find anything, beyond some stages that I'm not sure if I had heard of.  I am very curious what that button is on the main menu that links to the Wii U version.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo World to Sell Hyrule Warriors Limited Edtion
« on: September 09, 2014, 09:03:49 PM »
Two things about this news.  First, I was really looking forward to the limited edition of this game, but the treasure box version.  I have very little faith that the scarf here is of a high enough quality to want to use or display, and I already have a pattern to knit one that's actually nice, so this limited edition that we are getting in NA isn't that appealing.

Second, I'm going to assume that NoA is really not sure about this game's sales potential, meaning that trying to go nationwide with this would involve anywhere from an overproduced box that won't sell to a Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition limited supply fiasco.  Regardless, this news still kinda chaps my rear, as I'm sure it will sell out, and the wrong lesson will be learned by the company.

That concept art for Samus is giving me flashes of Guacamelee, and I'd imagine it would animate as beautifully.  I'd sure like to see that in motion in a new 2D Metroid game.

I am such a sucker for card game video games.  This and the Marvel TCG game have probably sucked the most hours out of my life.

You know, I think the scope of the Nintendo executive question was a too limited.  If you open it up a little, you can include the entirety of the Treehouse staff, because Bill Trinen and every male on the Treehouse staff... *fans self*

Thanks for answering my question about female representation!  Even if the question felt somewhat misdirected as "four straight, white dudes" answering another social justice question, that's what I wanted to hear.  I've listened to ten or fifteen female-hosted, LGBT-themed, or social justice-oriented podcasts talk about the subject, but I wanted to hear your honest opinions, as people who aren't especially vested in the subject matter.

And I've got to side with Jonny on the Wonderful 101 opinion.  During some of the more chaotic sequences, I've repeatedly fallen off the level to my doom, unable to determine what is the actual direction that will advance the stage.  Once I came to the realization that I am actually incapable of being good at the game, I began to enjoy it much more.

Lufia and Lufia II, on Wii U Virtual Console, all over my face please.

Thirded!  I've never really played the original, but Lufia II is probably the only game that challenges FFIV for favorite game status.  I actually enjoyed my time with the remake, and I seem to recall The Legend Returns entertaining me for a while, so Natsume has my money whenever any of these pop up.

I'd really love to say Xenoblade Chronicles X, but the one game that hit me in the feels was Yoshi's Wooly World.  The entire presentation felt so lovingly crafted, and it really feels like it is a game that is radiating with Nintendo magic.

The Wooly World graphics are actually sharp enough that a Nintendo knitting group I'm in has reverse engineered a stitch perfect pattern for the chain chomp ball Yoshi pushes around in the demo.  Now to knit up my own Wooly World diorama...

And this is why Nintendo is never going to listen when the internet proclaims that they need to stop making Mario games.

A shout out for my favorite "Christmas" game: Parasite Eve.  The game isn't explicitly about Christmas, but the game is set during the week around Christmas, and it provides a significant backdrop for the visuals and mood for the game.

To speak specifically as to soundtrack availability on iTunes, it's somewhat random. The best supported composers and series are almost fully available. Nobuo Uematsu and Akira Yamaoka have very robust selections available, and companies such as Square Enix and Konami seem to be making efforts to keep their selections vast and varied.  Most Final Fantasy soundtracks and a number of arranged albums are available, but there seem to be various licensing snags that can affect their availability, as they come and go from the store. One of the most frustrating examples is the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack. Most of the soundtracks can be purchased for between eight and twenty-five dollars, but FFXIII can only be purchased by individual track, because the vocal theme at the end (presumably) couldn't be licensed for release in America.  (Interesting note: the Lightning Returns soundtrack is available already.)

As far as Nintendo soundtracks go, I can't think of any first-party titles that have any official soundtracks available, and I tend to check every couple of weeks. Otherwise, it's all third-party material.  Amusingly, Opoona's soundtrack is available. (A game that all too few people know about).  I really have no idea how well these sell, but they all seem to have a healthy number of reviews, and they all have high ratings.

Finally, sorry, Jonny, but the Brink of Time arranged album (which is incredible) isn't available. Only the Chrono Trigger original soundtrack.

Sad day.  Lufia 2 is one of the few games that I would gladly play on an endless loop, and I really enjoyed the DS game for what it was, but I never sported even a passing interest in Rune Factory.  So I'll have my fingers crossed as well that someone remembers to pull the Lufia franchise out from under whatever wobbly desk it's been propping up.

what's the name of the intermission song at 43 min?

I was going to ask the same question.  It sounds like the love child of Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, and I am instantly made curious.

TalkBack / Re: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Sequel Revealed
« on: September 10, 2013, 10:25:00 PM »
The original rocked my socks off, and Final Fantasy XIV (and what has been released of Lightning Returns) has some phenomenal music.  Even if this game is an expanded re-release of the original, I will easily sink dozens more hours into it.  This could be very promising!

Gush away!  This game really helped define my childhood, and I'm having a blast playing through it again.  The only problem I'm having is that I keep stopping to sit and listen to the music.  Boy Meets Girl (Twoson Theme)... So magical.

Since you hit on the quasi-one handed control scheme, I am wondering if that had any influence on the game Opoona (criminally underrated, quirky Wii RPG that can be played solely using the nunchuk).

You know... I spend all this money on retail games, Skylanders, and god knows what else, but all it takes for me to get lost in a game for hours is a new Picross.  For anyone who doesn't know what to do with their random five or thirty dollar store credits, I highly recommend trying a Picross game!
