Famitsu Reveals New Revolution Game
« on: April 26, 2006, 04:12:54 PM »
Konami's "Elebites" is headed straight for Nintendo's next console.

Last week, Famitsu reported that they'd have a new Revolution game to show off in their next issue, and it's been proven true, as the first details on Konami's first next-gen Nintendo game have finally surfaced.

The game is called Elebites, and centers around collecting small electrically-charged creatures of the same name, as their energy fuels the entire world. Guitar Freaks' Shingo Mukaitouge is producing the title, and promises that it's been completely developed with the Revolution in mind; that it will feel as if you are really inside the world that's being presented to you.

Seemingly targeted towards casual gamers, it's been reported that some levels can be completed in ten minutes or less. Seeing as how that might go along with Nintendo's non-gamer formula, it's not surprising that this is a Revolution title.

Other details are scarce, but it's believed that more will be revealed at E3 next month. Stay tuned to PGC as more develops.

Huzzah for new IP's from 3rd parties! That's about all I can be excited for right now... Is this a Pikmin clone, or some other genre?

It sounds more like Pokemon than Pikmin, if you ask me. You use their energy to keep the world alive, so I'm guessing it's some kind of hunting sim. You lure them in, then you catch 'em, and then you suck them dry of their precious energy.

There's political commentary in there somewhere...

ANYWHO, it sounds quirky to me, and I'm always down for quirky.

*sigh*

Without further information, allow me to speculate as to what sort of game elebits is...

Platform gameplay: Elebits allows players to move around and xplore a world in search of the titular creatures
Adventure/Exploration gameplay: Because elebits are hidden and will require players to actively search for them, this is more of an adventure/exploration bit
3D Object manipulation: It's mentioned that elebits are found by picking up or moving objects via the freehand, possibly a 3D object manipulation thing via gestures
Music: The designer's pedigree and the "electric bits" lead me to believe that audio feedback will play at least a minor role in the game
Expanding world: The evolving world statement makes one think that the main purpose of finding elebits is to solve puzzles that open up new areas for exploration
Puzzle gameplay: Perhaps in order to expand the world and unlock new areas players will use elebits to solve puzzles

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

It kind of sounds like a puzzle game to me.
Could be awesome. It's been a long while since we've had a truly innovative title in that genre.
