Podcast Discussion / Re: RetroActive 51: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
« on: November 27, 2022, 10:10:50 AM »
Ok, just finished it. Im glad the game is short. I dont think I would have wanted to play it for much longer. I finished it in four sessions.

Overall the game is pretty good. I kind of wish I had bought it back when it was new. The art is so nice and as mentioned before, the music is great

It took a while to get used to the controls, but it works well enough after you get the feel of it. Its interesting how they reverse it by making kirby float in water. It has been a very long time since I played Canvas Curse, I think part of the reason I didnt like it was being such a small screen on DS, it was hard to control. The big screen of the Gamepad makes it much easier to draw lines.

As for the gamepad, I think this is the most I have ever played a Wii U game off TV. Its weird having the TV on, but not looking at it to play the game.

As for a kirby game, its a but weird to not have the copy abilities, but I did mostly enjoy the transformations, especially the submarine. The rocket level in stege 6 with the time limit was awful. It took me so many tries. I almost chose the skip level option.

I think by far the weakest part of the game is the bosses. They are repeated and the final boss is really annoying. It took me many attempts. I scanned my Dedede amiibo to get more health, but I still died, then I discover that the extra health only counts for one life. Thankfully on the next attempt, I was able to beat it with one hit point left. I think I was also down to 0 lives.

Seeing Iwata in the credits was nice. I guess this must have been one of his last games.

Im glad this was chosen for retroactive, I would have never played it otherwise.

Speaking of button layouts, I have been replaying No More Heroes 3, but the port on Xbox. There is a boss which is basically a series of quick time events. Im usually pretty good with swapping between Nintendo and Xbox, but doing it under pressure like that was a challenge.

I started the game yesterday in my almost 8 hours long Wii U anniversary stream. The first hour is playing Kirby.

Im really liking it so far. I never bought it originally because I didnt like Canvas Curse the one time I played it a long time ago.

I played some of 2 for the first time in years. I think it is better than 3.

This was a great episode. Really good discussion about all the games.

I was one of the few who suggested Affordable Space Adventures. I disagree that it needs to be played multiplayer. I played it solo in 2017 and thought it was great.

As for Kirby, I will buy it and play it. I tried playing it once on someone else's system, but wasnt really into it. But Im willing to give it another try.

I enjoyed listening to this. It was good to replay Wind Waker HD.

The Bayonetta and Viola sections are great, but I kind of hate the Jeanne chapters.

I have played both Cat Quest games. They are cute and fun. All the puns didn't bother me.

As an N-Gage collector who is aware of multiple N-Gage shirt listings on ebay, I found this very amusing.

The fridge talk was good. I have one preordered, but Im not sure when it is supposed to arrive.

I liked that email who said they listened to every episode, like I did a while back.

Sounds like Gui liked In Retrospect more than I did. I thought it was ok, but not as good as Bit Trip Runner.
Its kind of a weird coincidence, but I actually streamed it two days before launch because the developer sent me a review code. He must have found my Youtube channel because I have previously streamed Bit Trip Runner.
Gui already knows about this archived stream because I posted it on discord.

The Retrotink stuff is so good. I have the 2x Multiformat, which I got before the 5X was a thing. I want the 5X, but its so expensive.

This is extremely good news. The soundtrack for Gimmick is incredible. I have been wanting to buy the famicom cartridge, but it literally goes for thousands on ebay.

I have the soundtrack CD iam8bit put out a while back too.

If you havent heard thus game, listen to it now

Hearing Jon talk about Duke Nukem makes me happy. I played DNF in about 2016 or something. It was fun.

TalkBack / Re: Splatoon 3 Direct Recap
« on: August 10, 2022, 07:38:41 PM »
I have said before that Splatoon 1 is my favourite game of all time. Its good to see some changes for the better in the online features.

Im kind of disappointed that there are no new ranked modes, but Im sure the new story mode will be great.

I really like the new amiibo, I will be getting those.

We're unstoppable with you around Sena

Ha ha ha I'm the girl with the gall.

That was spectacular

And I'm the MVP, youre all thinkin it

25 hours into Xenoblade 3 and Im loving it. I think Im close to the end of chapter 4. Its funny how differently Im playing it from James. Im doing some exploration, but not a huge amount. Im motly just following the main quest and doing the occasional side quests. Im also playing on easy mode.

I was never really interested in playing 2 for whatever reason, but I played 1 and X. I think I like 3 the best.
