Actually, every attack is avoidable (as I've learned the hard way). Some of them are just very, very difficult to dodge.
The king of the food kingdom, I've forgotten his name, has unavoidable attacks. That's the one that's played out like pinball and you use your units to bounce him around; each time he hits one of your units, they take damage. That battle was exasperating enough as it was, I can't even imagine it with even less health points.
I think if you shoot your guys out to meet him, you don't suffer any damage... I may be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure that's how I was finally able to defeat King Shishkebaboo or whatever.

I was rather put off by the style, but when I tried the game, I became a believer.

Dear developers: Just because the Wii is "underpowered" doesn't mean every game on it has to be kiddeh-cartooneh! :@ I'm glad they acknowledge some part of the blame at least.

For all you guys poo-pooing (lol "poo-pooing") story, I guess I should clarify what I mean.

NPC-rambling and scrolling text cutscenes aren't the parts of "story" that I'm talking about... Rather, I mean the addition of cinematic/interactive/scripted events, too – Link's sister getting kidnapped in Windwaker, the boar-rider/bridge/duel scene in Twilight Princess, the Kafei/Anju saga in Majora's Mask... you guys would really be happier without those sorts of things in Zelda, and with "pure adventuring" instead?? Those were such memorable, exciting, epic parts of the game for me, and I'd go further and say that they're vital to modern Zelda. Good story-telling means I want to save Hyrule because of the emotional investment I develop with its inhabitants, and that emotional investment is one crucial element to creating a memorable gaming experience (or memorable book/movie/etc. for that matter). This is what made Majora's Mask feel so believable, so "human" to me, and is a big part of what makes me look back on it with such fondness – not the tight and engaging gameplay or puzzle-solving.

My issue with TP is that they do hardly any character development after a certain point in the game. IMO, it's at this point that the game loses its momentum, and—whether they realize it or not—is where I think many people began to find fault.

Already covered here

Started reading that article, and was about to give the French dude props for calling it like it is, and making an astute and honest observation, but then I realized he was still a PR tool.

All that talk about "moving on" I took to be referring to gamers "moving on" from the "novelty"/"gimmicky" moves of turning deep, adventure/platform/etc. games into light gun/on-rails shooters or mini-game fests. Sure, it's fine one time (Umbrella Chronicles, Raving Rabbids, etc.), but to do it over and over again? Heck yeah we're going to "move on," meaning the Expansion-Pack-Priced-Like-A-Full-Sequel isn't going to sell like gangbusters.

But no. Dude in that interview = silly PR tool. Sorry for the misunderstanding there, fella.

I haven't played it. When it was announced, I was excited – I'd heard good things about the original game, and was anxious to play this one. Then I found out that it would be an on-rails shooter, and many things which made me excited about the original game would be gimped or gone completely.

At that point, I wrote the game off. Regardless of a cool story or big scares or pretty graphics or "soundiest" sound (haha), I'm just not a fan of on-rail shooters, I can't help it.

P.S. - In my other post in this thread, I was callling the Sega guy a nincompoop, not anyone in this thread. jsyk :D

Sorry, guy-from-Sega, but you're over-reaching.

Sure, video game fans finally revolted commercially at "YET ANOTHER RAILS SHOOTER FROM A RESPECTED FRANCHISE WHOSE ROOTS ARE MILES FROM A RAILS SHOOTER." But you're surprised at that? And further, you're drawing the conclusion that M-Rated games don't sell based on that, EVEN THOUGH you have evidence to the contrary FROM YOUR VERY OWN COMPANY???

My good fellow, I regret to inform you that, unfortunately but unequivocally... you are an utter nincompoop.

Actually, this makes me want to play Twilight Princess again. :P Twilight Princess, though flawed, still evokes that old Zelda Itch.

I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit, though I could take or leave the "photorealistic" visual style. My biggest complaint was that the story, after starting so strong, took a backseat a little ways into the game. Part of that is out of necessity, I suppose; to leave the game world more open and less linear. But a more story-heavy Zelda would be very different and—considering they're trying to go with this "grand scale," epic/sweeping scope—wholly appropriate if you ask me*.

* of course, it should go without saying that tight, incredibly fun gameplay must still be included with any new emphasis on "story."

Haha, no worries. :P: I'm just glad you liked the games!

Also, I hesitate to mention this, lest my game cr3d take a hit, but I couldn't find Sonic & Knuckles on the virtual console. I saw that Knuckles was in Sonic 3, but as an enemy... are you able to like recruit him or something, so you can play as him later in the game??? I never had a Genesis, so I only very rarely played Sonic games as a kid.  :-[

Who thinks you're Bustin, Decoyman?

Apparently, Maxi and Caterkiller. :P:

The only people that said that they were not going to be around as far as I can tell is thatguy and bustin98.

EasyCure, Kairon, Bustin, I feel loved!

Stratos, you are a rocking Clandestine Claus: thanks for Swords & Soldiers! It is really addictive – I played Bersersker Race or whatever for like several hours last night, and it's an extra mode (not even the "real" game!). Poor Arnie, I got him and his clones killed so many times...

And then the unexpected from Kairon/Easycure! Wow, thanks guys, that was really nice of you. :) Blaster Master was all I remembered it to be, though I'm gonna have to switch from the remote to the classic controller, I think (the remote's d-pad is kind of uncomfortable for button-mashing old-school games like that).

Overall, I can now say with confidence, it's much more fun to get your Secret Santa gift around Christmastime. ;)

P.S. - Nothing against him, cuz he's a kewl dude and all, but why does everyone think I'm Bustin? :P

Actually, I'm in the same position as thatguy. Looks like my person hasn't added me yet, and I'm on my way out of town. Will have to do it when I get back on Sunday. Blame it on my girlfriend and our mutual obsession with Kansas City. :P:

I agree too.  I'm still confused about them eating each other.  I also have a Runey spreadsheet to track everything cause I got tired of always having to run back to check the map.  My runey levels seem to be doing okay though, no one's extinct....yet.

Haha, I read this at first "I'm still confused about them dating each other." :D

But yeah, I hate runeys. Mine went all Donner Expedition on each other over winter. At least they don't leave little runey bones laying around to show the carnage.

Bah. I could kick a field goal with Link's giant football-shaped head.

Now, now, after reading Neal's review and listening to him ramble about it on the Newscast, I'm considering at the very least renting it.

Cel-shaded Santa Link's revised to-do list.

1) Save Hyrule-slash-Zelda
2) Save Christmas
3) Smite Halbred if he doesn't at least rent Spirit Tracks

From where does the Santa Link image originate?
I think Decoyman made it himself.

Yeah, I altered some WW art to make it Christmas themed. It was for an old NWR (PGC?!) contest back in the day. I think I still have the vector art around somewhere...

I'm not gonna be picky on the games on my wishlist, though I will say I'm intrigued in Swords and Soldiers. And Blaster Master being released really snagged my nostalgia... But really, any quality action/adventure game would be right up my alley. Feel free to surprise me if you'd rather do that.

I'll admit, I checked GameFAQs too for runey info. It's rather confusing in-game (runeys eat other runeys? sometimes runeys are added for no apparent reason? sometimes they DON'T eat each other? what???), and not explained well. And yeah, I did read about them in the stupid library. What did I come away with? "Runeys make stuff grow, so watch out!" Lame.

It IS worth it to watch out for them, though. All my crops grow faster, even in dungeons. Heck, I have strawberries every day. Harvest them, water the plants, and next day they're back. That's twice as fast, or double your income if you harvest them every day.

Unfortunately, with no way to grow them in winter, all my areas took fairly major hits. Now that it's spring again, Operation Runey "Runewal" is beginning in earnest.

Also, I've logged... slightly embarrassed... nearly 100 hours in this game. =o It's basically all I've played since I got it several months ago. That's value, folks!

Ya got your wish, Stogi! At least one of the four people in this thread is happy.

Yeah, it was a tough loss for the Huskers Saturday night, but I couldn't be happier with how our defense played throughout the game. Watching Suh & Friends™ toss Texas's Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback around like a ragdoll all game was very, very impressive. And fun. That guy has been nothing but bad news for Nebraska since he broke our hearts with his first fourth-quarter comeback against us as a freshman in 2006.

If Suh doesn't get an invitation to the Heisman Ceremony, which is supposed to celebrate the "most dominant player in college football" (not the most dominant offensive player), it'd be a crime, and they should redefine it to say it's just for offensive players.

In closing, a letter to Santa Clause:

What up, Santa!

How've you and Mrs. Clause been? Hopefully good! Anyways, I know you're a busy guy this time of year, so enough with the pleasantries.

I know it's been awhile since I've written, but I had a special request this year.

All I want for Christmas is an average, serviceable, boring ol' Husker offense. It doesn't need to be flashy or put up obscene numbers, but it'd be VERY nice if it could get 10 yards when, for example, a super-awesome punt return sets them up at the opponent's 10-yard line. If you could deliver this to the Husker locker room by Christmas, I'd sure be happy. And they'd be able to take the new offense out for a spin against Arizona a few days later!

Will leave some carrots for your reindeer, and some celery for you. No offense, but you should really watch your weight, and celery is a negative calory food from what I hear!

Thanks, Santa – you're awesome.

Your friend,
Aaron
