Retro City Rampage Coming to WiiWare February 28
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:30:39 PM »

WiiWare's swan song gets a release date.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/33407

Retro City Rampage will be released on WiiWare through the Wii Shop Channel on February 28.

Coming with it is ROM City Rampage, a prototype version of the game accurate to the hardware specifications of the NES. Grandtheftendo, the precursor to Retro City Rampage, was built to run on a real NES.

Retro City Rampage is a retro-styled Grand Theft Auto inspired game. It will cost 1000 Wii points and is playable on the Wii U through Wii mode.

What took it so long? wasn't this announced back in 2009?

This was on Playstation Plus as a free download earlier.  It's an entertaining game, but I don't think I would've paid $10 for it.

The HD versions are $15, so they are giving a discount for the WiiWare version.

This game is at the top of my wishlist and it is a good way to end the Wiiware service. Pity that you can not play this game using the Wii U's Gamepad controller. Perhaps a eShop version will be released sooner or later?

I have this on my Vita from PSN+ and haven't played it yet. I was curious enough to download it for free, but not enough to pay $10-15 for it.

The Steam version is on sale for $7.49 (and Steam owners can also downing the "ROM City Rampage" addition that the WiiWare version has).

Glad to hear it's finally coming out. I can tell by the comments none of you will be buying it. $10 is a fair price for a non-HD version. Still looks fun, hope people give it a chance. If you don't own other systems, you don't have a good reason not to try it if you were interested before the Wii U.

I can only speak for myself, but the reason I'm no longer interested in the game is because I now have a clearer idea of what it is. I've read some reviews and watched some videos and it doesn't look or sound as fun as I thought it once did. In particular, the copious amount of redundant references to 80's movies and the self-referential video game jokes just don't appeal to me.

Plus, I've played Hotline Miami in the interim and that game is a top down GTA inspired action game that's more to my tastes (i.e. psychotic and twisted).

For me, a lot of it is I'd rather have it on a handheld. If it were on 3DS I'd be much more likely to buy it.

What does HD mean in this case?  It's a 2D top-down retro stylized game.  I'd hate to play it on the Wii if it looked any more retro.

I wonder if they made this one less of a retrocity.

What does HD mean in this case?
Probably the same thing it meant back on the NES.

Check out the box art for the first Megaman game, it says "High-Resolution Graphics" right there on the top.
