Wiimote with built-in MotionPlus Coming Soon!?!?

Nintendo Wiimote RVL-036 mysteriously clears the FCC

We can't say for sure what's new here but that wireframe outline is most definitely a Wiimote. The Nintendo-branded Bluetooth device just passed through the FCC courtesy of Hon Hai Precision, aka Foxconn. There's very little in the way of detail here other than a new RVL-036 model number reminiscent of the console's "revolution" roots. Perhaps the new Wiimote finally integrates the MotionPlus add-on? Who knows, but it certainly makes sense given Miyamoto's recent comments. At least we can be certain that it's exactly 12 times better than the model RVL-003 Wiimote shipping today. Another FCC document grab after the break.

Everything looks the same so its almost certainly simply the addition of MotionPlus, all I can say is that it is about time...

Wiimote+ is long overdue.

I understand why they didn't do it earlier (bc compatibility with older remotes) but I hope this means they are gonna 2 more things that make sense too.

1.) They can't keep selling outdate wiimote in WiiPlay anymore, so hopefully there is a WiiPlay+ to go with this. That strategy worked so well the first time, there is no doubt that they wouldn't do it again. I have no idea what games they would include for  it, but as a $10 addition to the $40 Wiimote+ (totaling $50 like now) I wouldn't really care, I'm sure it would be a fun distraction.

2.) Finally combine the rest of the sports from Wii Sports in to Wii Sports Resort. Give us M+ Tennis, Baseball and dual wiimote+ boxing and include this in the current bundle with the wiimote+ and Wii. They can even release it standalone so the rest of us could upgrade (like Wii Fit Plus).

Honestly, it's what they should have done for the Black Wii launch in the US.
New Black Wii, with WiiSportsResortPlus and a wiimote+ bundled in.
They could've even had a MH3 bundle that includes all that and a CCPro for $250
core and casual in the box and a Monster Deal(pun intended).

If this does include a built-in Motion+, it's long overdue but I only want to see that if it means Nintendo's actually going to support the damn thing (which so far they haven't with the Motion+, Wii Sports Resort and the upcoming Zelda nonwithstanding).  Maybe we'll hear more at E3.

Acutally, two more Nintendo games use Wii MotionPlus (FlingSmash and Zangeki no REGINLEIV).

Balck, I don't think Wii Play is outdated. It serves it's function. I could see them possibly doing a sequel in the future, but I don't think it's necessary.

Wii Play would be outdated if the new standard remote has motion plus built in*.
Wii Play doesn't utilize M+ so packing an Wiimote+ in with WiiPlay wouldn't be doing M+ any favors and a Wii Play+ would be needed to replace the now antiquated Wii Play.

*This is all assuming that this is a wiimote+ and that wiimote+ is now the standard controller.
If wiimote+ is the new standard controller, regular wiimotes will probably not be sold anymore and therefore WiiPlay would also need to be updated.

I'm definitely up for WiiPlay Plus it makes a lot of sense considering how well WiiPlay sold. New controller, new games, new customers perhaps as well.

It would be cool if it wasn't just with M+ built in, but also added some new features, such as a  built in microphone for online communique and dare I say also an analog stick and a couple more buttons?

built in mic is something I was surprised they didn't include in the first place.

Wiimote could have been the all in one solution had it included M+ & a Mic from the start.

that would probably be too expensive...

exactly how much are you willing to pay for a full controller? $90?

How much does a controller cost today?

Let's break it down.

Wiimote (basic w/ condom) - $39.99
Nunchuck - $19.99
Motion Plus (sold separately) - $19.99
-----------------------------------------
full one sided motion controller - $80

would you be willing to pay an extra $10 to have full motion in both hands?

You figure a M+ get packed in and it's only $10 that way and we already know that the Nunchuck is overpriced, so if it could be bundled, it too would only be $10 right.

so if we had a wiimote+ that had motion built in and we got it for $39.99 (or 44.99)
I would assume we could get that Nunchuck+ for $19.99 still (but lets stay $24.99)

45 + 25 = $70

which would be the same price as a bundles Wiimote w/ M+($50) and separate nunchuck($20) now.

I'm not so sure the Motion Plus will become a built-in component. It already sells pretty well as it is, and it appears to be a selling point when it is bundled with games.

My motion plus actually stopped working, so I will have to send in my motion plus to Nintendo to have it repaired. Basically the nunchuck would not work when plugged into the motionplus/wiimote. Once I removed the nunchuck, the cursor returned to normal. I can not play games using the motion plus(Red Steel 2), but I can not play average games with the motion plus connected to the wiimote. I am forced to play it old school until my motionplus is repaired.

I called a Nintendo hotline and they walked me through a process of checkng whether my wiimote was defective. I have to wait for a mailing sticker from Nintendo to arrive in the mail. Once it arrives, I have to take the motionplus to UPS and have it shipped to Nintendo in Washington state, I believe.

I was hoping for Nintendo to give me this wiimote plus thing rather than just the motionplus itself.  :cool;

It's probably just a simple upgrade with a lower power consuming circuits so the horrible wiimote battery genocide is lessen somewhat. If you ask me; that's what way overdue.

The RVL-036 designation is probably just to help separate the new GREEN Wiimotes from the old...

Could Nintendo include a rechargable battery inside the wiimote like the one found in the DS or Dual Shock 3? Either a charger like the one found for the DS systems, or a USB charger that plugs into the wii could charge the battery. But this would probably raise the price for the wiimote, correct?

Reliable device-specific batteries are expensive, because they're reliable.  Wii Remote price would shoot up.

hmmm didn't think about the possibility of rechargeable batteries... while expensive, the level of mass production and the boatloads of cash nintendo has made might cause the price to stay the same... maybe

How much does it cost Nintendo to produce the DS batteries? What I am saying is that  they could release this new wiimote with a DS like battery built into it that could be recharged continously. How much does one of those cost?

I there are 2 reasons the wimote doesn't have an internal rechargeable battery.

1.) They're expensive.

2.) when your battery dies during gameplay, do you really wanna be tethered to your console while waving the remote around?

swappable rechargeables gives you the freedom to swap out batteries whenever you need to and only briefly pause gameplay while never being tethered to your console.

I'm gonna one up you and suggest that this is going to include a rechargeable battery that can be charged through kinetic motion...  Now waggle will be a selling point!

now that would be innovative.

I guess I trapped myself on that one. However, making the technology use less power would seem logical. I actually use those energizer plus batteries, you know the ones that are supposed to last twice as long as the regular batteries. In fact when I talked to the Nintendo technician about my wiimotion plus problem he asked me what brand of batteries did I use. I wonder why?
