I think Nintendo is taking this growth thing the wrong way. They don't need to grow in the West. Then need to just Grow Japan. Literally. Make more Japanese landmass and put something in the water to increase the birth rate.

Considering the Wii U won't have any games left in development by May 2016, it should be "all over" regardless of how the PS4's doing at that point.

He is pulling it out of his ass, but there would also seem to be a pretty decent likelihood that he's right. Zelda will likely be out by then, the Wii U successor probably launching that holiday. If not nothing, there won't be much left.

Funny thing is the other Japanese outlet, (Famitsu?) has Wii U ahead of PS4 in japan by close to the same amount. Are they not reliable? As long as Wii U is relevant in terms of 1st party releases, the fight in Japan will be neck and neck.

Why don't you count them as one game? COD, Madden, Street fighter, pretty much all publishers count their multiplatform games as 1 sku for sales purposes. NPD doest separate for chart purposes AND most importantly, they're pretty much the same game.

You don't count them as one game because they're two games. There are very significant differences between the two. Those other games are virtually identical across different versions. I guarantee you a much higher proportion of people bought both versions of Smash Bros. than bought multiple versions of Madden.

The Wii U version of Smash Bros was the 4th best selling individual SKU of December, with the 3DS version at 6th. So a Smash Bros would still be in 4th place even if NPD didn't combine the sales.

Getting back to some actual sales discussion, Captain Toad did 250k physically for the month which is really good for the type of game it is. Combine Japan and Europe sales it's probably close to 500k worldwide by now.

Gosh, Nintendo really did a terrible job with the Wii U. I love this console to death, I just hate that I can't see a future post-2006 for this thing.
