Well, my deranged system is this. I basically only play the Elite Scavenger hunt. I do it because it is one of the few tours where you can end it before the time limit is fully up. The trickiest thing about it is probably just learning your plants and knowing the different bonsai's. But after playing it for a bit, you soon learn that it only uses a small selection of items over and over and so you can learn them and their differences after playing it awhile. Even if you don't know them and have to pick up items to check their description, you can still drop them and find the right items in about half the allotted time.

The time limit for the Elite Scavanger Hunt is 6 minutes but I can finish it in about 3. I've even been able to finish it at 2 minutes or just over if the items are randomly put close by or in the first 3 houses I select. I've finished the tour at over 3 and a half minutes before and still gotten the gold Tortimer medal so you may have 4 minutes to get the Golden Tortimer award before it drops to silver and bronze. I'm not sure exactly since it has been ages since I've got anything less than a gold Tortimer medal. Now, you only get 16 medals for a Gold Tortimer award on the Elite Scavanger but because it can be completed so quickly, I prefer to just take it all the time. I can do 8 tours for 128 medals in about 50 minutes and that's having to go back and board the ship for the tour and get the instructions over and over again.

The other reason I like to take the Scavanger tour is that I can pick up flowers as I'm running around and when I complete the scavenger hunt, I can keep the flowers I've picked up and put them in my basket to take home. After 4 tours, I'll have got 40 flowers filling up my basket and then take them back to my village where I plant them all on the beach. I do that twice for 80 flowers and the 128 medals. The reason is that I want the flowers to go grey and wilt. When they do, I pluck them and this counts towards my weeding badge total. Wilted flowers are treated as weeds. Thus, I find this system works best in order to help me work towards the completion of the gold badge for both those things and is the fastest method to do so. At this point, I only need to do about 14 more of these large scavenger island trips and I'll have got the gold badge for Tortimer Island Tours. Unfortunately, I only learned about the wilted flowers counting towards the weeding total around February so I'll proabably still have to do a few more island tours after I get the gold to get enough flowers shipped in to wilt and die.

I did clean and then I started making a bunch of trades and my town is getting filthy again. One of these days I'll have you over to a clean village. But stick around, once I get enough weeds, I am going to need 3 people to come over and help pick them to get the weeding furniture. Maybe you could be one of those people.

So, I've tried to stay on top of the DLC content available for New Leaf which is no easy task as there seems to be no good source one can go to as most are outdated. Also note you must have your gate closed for them to appear. Like the bees, other biting/stinging bugs only come out when there is no gate activity in your town. One of the sucky things about the game as it really limits the ability for you to just be wandering around playing in your town and receiving random visitors. I always wanted to leave my gate open when I play so I can have surprise visitors but so much is limited. I do hope that this is fixed in the next version.

Speaking of next version, I wonder if we will get a Wii U edition at some point near the end of the consoles life. Would love if it was more of an "MMO" experience where everyone (of your friends) was connected together online.

So it looks like you got the Cabana flooring and Shaved Ice Lamp, Khush? And I just got the Cabana floor myself haha. I do have the Shaved Ice Lamp in my catalogue but I have yet to find it. I hope I didn't accidentally sell it...

I do have a Valiant Statue for you, though!

[edit] Sweet!! I'm going to try writing Benji some letters in the hopes we get to be good friends sooner.

Hey do you have any of the pumpkin-head headgear from Halloween? I believe my friends have all of them so I will try to get the hats from them.

Ok. I'll have to go through your lists. There's a lot I can help you on and some stuff I'm surprised you don't have yet. Some of the stuff I'm stuck on, you are stuck on too. I just have 83 items left to acquire and then I'll have achieved the complete catalogue plus the 7 DLC items I've shown above. Of those 83 items, 13 are Gracie items available in the fall (September-November) time. Since I know I've got to play to September anyways to get the King Salmon fish for my museum, I'm content to wait to get those items and haven't bothered to trade for them. I suppose I'll make a post of all that I am still looking to acquire as well. I can match up what I'm missing against what you are missing and then it looks like we will be pretty even.

On the Valiant Statue, is there any artwork you are still looking for or need?

Sure, yeah a list of the 83 items that you need as well could be handy. Yeah there are few of the Nooklings items that I've just never seen. I don't think they're even rare or anything though haha. Even some of the common clothing items, I've either just missed or never seen. I'm not too worried about the Gracie fall clothing though, since I can just buy them then too.

For paintings, I need:
Ancient Statue
Famous Painting
Scary Painting
Scenic Painting
Serene Painting
Warm Painting

The Valiant Statue is yours to have anyways, but sure I'll trade ya if you have any of those 6 I'm missing!

Oh yeah, I'm not in any real rush here of course. Don't worry about ordering anything if you want to focus on finishing your trades and getting the rest of the stuff you need first.

Aw nuts. I had another ancient statue a week or so ago but made a trade with somebody else on it. Interestingly, I have all of those artworks in my museum except for the scary painting and you would then likewise have all the stuff I'm missing. That's good. Now if we see copies of them, we won't be needing them for ourselves first. I'll keep watch for them.

As for me, if you go by the way the catalogue breaks things down, there are these catagories:

Furniture
Wallpaper
Carpet
Tops/Shirts
Bottoms
Dresses
Headgear
Accessories
Footwear
Umbrellas
Stationary
Music

Gyroids
Fossils

The catagories in green mean I have acquired all the items for that section. Orange means I have everything but the Gracie items still need however I can basically write them off as complete. Therefore, I can get you all the stuff you are missing in those catagories either by ordering it in from my catalogue or duping the unorderable copy of the item I have. For the remaining catagories, I have the following left to acquire:

Gyroids

EDIT: Scratch that. All gyroids now acquired. I knew if I posted all the extras I had I could probably finish them off in trade.

Wallpaper

Jungle Wall (sold in museum when all bugs have been donated)
Paintball Wall (sold in museum when all artworks have been donated)
Sci-Fi Wall
Underwater Wall (sold when all fish and deep sea creatures are donated)

From my early catalogue source, the museum walls can be ordered from the catalogue so I could probably trade for them but since I plan on completing my museum, I expect to get them in time and am not worried about waiting. If I could get that last Saharah item though, I'd love to stop buying redundant wallpapers and carpets from him. Plus, it seems to be a scarce Saharah item and if we can dupe a few copies, I think I could make some trades on it for other things.

Headgear

Birthday Hat (Birthday)
Birthday Shades (Birthday)
Blue Ogre Mask (Japan Regional Item)

Bulb Bopper (Fireworks)
Flower Bopper (Fireworks)
Heart Bopper (Fireworks)
Newsprint Hat (Japan Regional Item)
Red New Year's Hat (Countdown)

Red Ogre Mask (Japan Regional Item)
Star Bopper (Fireworks)

EDIT: 4 hats left. All Fireworks.
