Thanks Nemo.  Post back when you receive the drive, hook it up, and test it out.

Hey Cater.  I have yet to hear any experiences with other storage devices.  My drive is still working great and I would still recommend it.  Let me know when you get it.

There is already a Smash Bros Wii U thread.  Can a forum moderator please "merge" these 2 topics?

...E3 demos break, and showing off a game that would break would reflect poorly on the game to the public
It doesn't really matter. They just need to add a disclaimer that issues mat be encountered.  Besides, there are plenty of released software titles that are ridden with bugs. Unfortunately, I am starting to get used to broken software.

Need for speed most wanted u (frequent hard locks)
Zen pinball 2 (leaderboards currently screwed up)
Netflix (frequent hard locks at startup)
Runner 2 (Hard locks finally fixed with patch)

Can you uninstall the app and re-download it?
I just deleted and re-downloaded Netflix and it didn't resolve the issue.  I guess we'll have to wait for the next Netflix update.

Nintendo Gaming / Netflix on Wii U

Anyone else experiencing an occasional black screen and hard lock after launching Netflix?

This started happening after the last Netflix update, which I think was after the April Wii U system update.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii U External USB Storage Devices
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:32:42 PM »
Please post your experience with a Wii U external USB storage device.  Did you choose a drive have a dedicated power source (AC adapter) or is it USB powered (with y-cable).  Does it work?  Did you get rid of it and purchase another one?  I'll keep this post updated as long as people want to take the time and share their experiences to help the community.  Please share!

In general, installation of a USB device is seamless.  Plug the USB cable to the Wii U, power on the drive, and turn on the Wii U.  The Wii U will recognize the drive and prompt to format it.  Format just takes a few seconds and once it is done, it's ready for use.

eShop downloads will go directly to the USB drive.  Transferring previously downloaded software from the Wii U memory to the USB drive is very easy.  All associated files transfer over (Software, Save Data, Update data (DLC)).

When you power on and off the Wii U, the drive also powers on and off automatically.

The following USB storage devices are owned and recommended by NWR members:

Seagate Backup Plus Desktop Drive (1 TB) - Model STCA1000100  (dedicated power source) (2 TB capacity also available)
Owned and Recommended by: Seacor, Racht

There have been no reports of decreased software performance or any increase in load times.

The drive is about the same height and less than half the length of the Wii U console.

$110 dollar difference?  If you don't care about the deluxe digital promotion, grab the basic set.

If you plan to download from eShop, you will eventually need an external USB storage drive regardless of 8GB or 32GB sets.

If you really want a black Wii U, purchase a black decal skin for (approx $25).

I am thinking of purchasing this, but I have it on 3DS.  Anyone else have both the 3DS and Wii U versions?  Is there anything different other than HD visuals, DLC and Miiverse?  Any new levels in single player or raid mode?  Can you go above level 50 in raid mode?  New playable characters?

This is a good video.  Thanks Dennis, Paul and Shawn.  I will be pledging my support for this game.

One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms.

/facepalm

As EA previously announced that they didn't bother to test and port Frostbite 3 to Wii U because Frostbite 2 tests were not good on Wii U.  Yet, they just announced that they are porting Frostbite 3 to mobile platforms.  Are you kidding me???

EA:  Just tell us the real reason Frostbite 3 isn't being ported to Wii U and stop the BS.

TalkBack / Re: DLC for Injustice on Wii U Looking Very Unlikely
« on: May 07, 2013, 07:19:12 PM »
Well, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros lost another sale.  I was going to purchase the Wii U version after listening to the great word of mouth on RFN Connectivity Episode 84.

This recent news showing continued lack of DLC announcements for Wii U makes me believe that the Wii U version will not have post-purchase DLC.  If so, they have misrepresented the product (as did Treyarch with BLOPS2 on Wii U) as the back of box indicates download bonus content.  If they end up not supporting post-purchase, they need to reduce the price of the Wii U version.

I will not support NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros with a purchase.

Anyone know how big the update was? I'd guess somewhere in the hundreds of megabytes.

GoNintendo says it is 673MB.

That's pretty small.  The last update I received for my iPhone was 800 MB.

Took ages to download and install...

Are you on dial-up?   ;)

My download and install combined was only about 40 minutes.

Overall, good review.  I was surprised there was no mention of the visuals, especially since this is a not a mediocre port.

Pro:
Wii U version uses the higher-res textures from the PC version, has improved reflections and night-time lighting, and smoother frame-rate.

Gearbox is a decent studio. I guess this wasn't their best

Not their best:  Brothers in Arms: Double Time (Wii)
