General Chat / Banned from "gaming"
« on: June 27, 2003, 09:41:35 PM »
lol.  Ah memories...

I was banned from "gaming."  Well actually at first I was just severely limited in my gameplay time.   Then it resulted to the full out banishment of em.  I later found some parts of my precious SNES in the trash can.

Good luck but I doubt theres anything you can do.

Nintendo Gaming / The Gamecube system menu...

As for the Gamecube menu. It's nothing new.
The ancient Sega Saturn had one that had all the same features and, if I recall, many more.
So it obviously doesn't require a hard-drive. I think there's just a really small amount of memory storage somewhere in the console or something. I think maybe it's called RAM but, what do I know, I'm not a techie.

Close.    If it's similar to the computer, all the info is stored in the ROM.   I wouldn't think its flashable though, but who knows...

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Party 4 or Super Monkey Ball 2???
« on: June 03, 2003, 09:31:40 PM »
I have both.

Mario Party 4 is really only worth it if do a lot of 4 player games.   Otherwise, it's just plain boring... computer competition is just not fun at all.  The mini-games are just great though, especially the 2v2 for me.

Super Monkey Ball 2 I find to be much more fun if you have LESS than 4 players.  But the games I dunno... theres really not much of a variety or the randomness involved.   It's not setup as a party game very well as you pretty much have to choose which mini-game you want to play always and exit completely to play a different mini-game.

I still give the edge to Mario Party 4 though.   I really HATE having to unlock essentially half of the entire Monkey Ball 2 games (and believe me it takes a LONG time because some of the levels are just plain out absurd).   It's even worse because single player is incredibly boring... theres only so much rolling you can do... but you stil lmust play if you want to unlock.

Here I thought I was the only one!   Damn, I REALLY wish Nintendo got rid of those freakin groooves.   They're painful.

And I only find irritated with the L/R buttons if I have to use it a lot, like in Metroid Prime.  The fact that you have to use it a lot and then have to hold it made it even worse.  But if its just occasional it doesn't bother me one bit.   But those grooves again.... damn them.  Even those grip grooves on the joystick... their just too deep I tell you.

Nintendo Gaming / The article that reveals Nintendo´s true nemesis
« on: May 28, 2003, 10:28:02 AM »
Haha, my thoughts exactly Moonwatcher.

Honestly, most third party games pale in greatness especially compared to Nintendo published games.   So I'm to blame because I don't buy these sub-par third party games?!  Uhhh right.   Sorry I have limited money, and I look to buy the best game regardless of where its from.  But hey, guess what... Nintendo happens to make the best games and third parties fail to reach that level of quality most often.   So sorry.  So you want me to buy some racing sim instead of Metroid Prime?   Some Disney party game over Zelda?  Hell no, that ain't going to happen and don't blame me for that.  I'm so sorry that Nintendo fans aren't idiots and go out buying massive copies of crud games and ports.   Waaaaaah.

It's going to be a sad day if Nintendo dies off in the future, for creativity and quality will go down the drain. It sucks for Nintendo, that being so great they are essentially killing themself.   They would do wonders as a software publisher only, heck they would crush the competition easily.  But they know their fans, we're loyalists, we recognize their greatness.   We don't want em to go that way, it's just too sad.  The way I see it, Nintendo is dying, and the only reason they are still here and plan to be in the future is because for us, the faithful.   God bless them.

Nintendo Gaming / Why don't Nintendo fans like Fighting Games?
« on: May 25, 2003, 12:03:51 PM »
I don't really like fighting games because it's basically whoever looked up/memorized the most/best combos and played the most.

It's impossible to just pick up and play and have fun, as you'll get your @ss kicked in a  few seconds by any experienced player.

Well I remember reading about this on other sites as well but this is the first one I scrounged up.

Gamers.com Article

In the very last pargraph it states, "Meanwhile, previews in Japan's Famitsu Weekly magazine indicate that the game will indeed feature eight-player competition on two linked Gamecubes, and Nintendo also plans to release a special controller for the game."

I'm really curious as how it going to be, because its kinda strange IMO.   Imagine a controller with turtle shells for buttons and stuff.

It stands for "Special".

Not necessarily Gameboy Advance Special.  But the SP marking denotes that its Special Edition.

Exactly.  The words "Final Fantasy" alone will be a system seller.  But now people who don't own either GC or a GBA who wan't to play this game, aren't about to go buy both just for this.  Especially that it requires 4 GBA just to play this game in true multiplayer fashion.

Furthermore, with the GC/GBA Player bundle out there they already could gain the library of GBA games through other/cheaper means.

I understand what they are trying to do.  Get GBA owners to pick up a GC.  Giving GBA owners a strong incentive to pick up a GC is good yes, but a mandatory one no.  (This is why I believe they should leave it as how the E3 demo has it.)  I believe this is going to bite back Nintendo in the @ss and I hope it does after such a crude tactic of slapping already GC owners in the face.  It's VERY disheartening to know that I won't be able to truly enjoy this game as it is meant to be enjoyed (in 4 multiplayer fashion) as it shows to me Nintendo gives jack about their already customers.

You know what?  I constantly hear people around here saying that they might be interested in purchasing a copy of Pacman GCN/Tetra's Trackers/4 Swords GCN if they were priced appropriately, as the graphics are too simple, and the gameplay doesn't look deep enough to warrant full price.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is everything those games are and more.  The graphics are superb, it's got a fairly deep story, and the gameplay seems fairly complex.  It takes full advantage of both the GBA and the GCN.  Contrary to Pacman or Tetra's Trackers, the game also features a great single player campaign that requires no GBA.

I'm still seriously confused about why Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles isn't accepted, simply because it has an OPTION for 4 player cooperative play via GBA.  It's the ultimate connectivity game, and people don't like it because...  it features connectivity.

Please, just give some thought to this.  Being angry because it's innovative is not a good thing.  Everyone who has PLAYED the game says that they can't see it working without the GBAs in multiplayer.  I think that's a good thing, as it shows that gaming is advancing.  (no pun intended.  )

Er single player does require a GBA.  Otherwise, you're screwed there buddy.

Furthermore, the emphasis of this game is the multiplayer aspect of this game, not the single player.   Meaning, I'm sure playing as 4 players is A LOT more fun than playing as single player.  However, many of us don't have 3 other people with a GBA and can meet regularly just to play this game.  So now the multiplayer aspect is basically gone.   Instead of somone over at the time and being able to pick up a controller (which are the best and most popular multiplayer games), they can't play at all.

Pacman only needs/requires 1 GBA which could much easily work.

The only appropriately priced Tetra's Trackers/4 Swords GCN I can see is if they came for free bundled with another game or for possibly $10 each at most.    Because heck, even if I did buy it I would rarely be able to enjoy them (if ever).   True, it's my problem not theres.  But hey, if they want to limit their user base and their sales go right ahead, but it makes no sense... don't expect to see great numbers at all on what could easily been a system seller.

It is true that being played through connectivity is how it is best done.  However, removing the alternative of NOT using a GBA (if necessary) is absurd.   The fact that it is already there but they plan to remove makes it even worse.  It's nothing more than trying to be a cash cow, with no consideration to the gamer.

The necessary hardware requirements of this game is just so incredibly tough that it will be virtually impossible to enjoy as 4 players (which it is how it is meant to be played).  The main reason for purchasing of this game has become pointless if you don't have all the necessary hardware.

I informed you of no such thing.  And IGN is DEAD WRONG.  They are basing that assumption on the fact that you don't need the GBA in the demo they showed at E3.  Nintendo has told us point blank that the GBA will be REQUIRED for EACH PLAYER in the final version.  We're all hoping they come to their senses, but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case.

As for the inventory switching causing everyone else to stop playing, that's a myth.  Simply pressing L or R switches to the next inventory item, just like it does on your GBA.  Why would you need a screen to do that, or make everyone else stop?  That's silly talk.

God thats just absolutley horrible.   MAJOR dissapointment and even more resentment now for me.  I'll still hold out hope, but if all ends up true, Nintendo/Squre-Enix have lost a fan and a customer from here on out.  Nothing more than a cash cow and a slap in the face to the gamer.

Only black for now.   I wouldn't count on the other colors coming for a while... I mean the other colors for the Gameboy Advance SP (something that sells like hotcakes) hasn't even come over yet....

Anybody know a thing about the special Mario Kart controllers?   I'm curious as what they would be like.   I already got 4 controllers though, and it's really not worth it unless it's really great and still good for other games.

Okay I did a search for every word in "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles" but I didn't find anything but two locked posts, and one thats not really on topic but more or less a question.  So don't blame me if this is a repost.

This game looks absolutely awesome.   The graphics style is amazing, and I'm loving the fact that it seems more "fantasy" like than the previous final fantasy series.   It's been getting high preview marks from everywhere.

However, it seems as though the connectivity feature is just going to kill the game.   Any Final Fantasy game is a system seller, however, but the necessity of the GBA is going to cripple sales it seems.  I simply don't see how you can ever expect a gamer to own a GC, and have available 4 GBA systems.  Furthermore, what reason does a person have to buy the game if their friend has it unless you plan on playing through the game multiple times with the same person?   Granted theres single player, but the focus of this game is multiplayer and I would naturally assume that would be the most enjoyable way to play this game.   So in other words, it would sell only 1 copy of the game, out of 4+ people that know each other and interested in it seems.

Indiciations from of what I've read from all the game sites seem as though a GBA WILL NOT be REQUIRED (thank god).  However, without a GBA you will be SEVERELY limited in your gameplay.

Furthermore, no matter how useful the connectivity feature is in actually gameplay (so you don't slow down or pause the gameplay), its just simply not reasonable.  Theres just too much money required and too many things involved.   I don't understand why they do would do this.   I do plan on buying this game, and I do have a Gameboy Advance SP, but I don't know 3 other people w/ a Gameboy that can meet up constantly just to play this game.   (I'm sure I will enjoy it single player, but I know I will be missing out greatly compared to the enjoyment of 4 player action.)  Geez, the only way this seems that it could work is if it was online where people can link up or something.

Seriously, how can Square-Enix/Nintendo think this can work?  Especially on such a big game title?  Any PGC Editor knowledge or insight to ease my worries?  =\

What age group are we talking about here for "younger people"?

But anyways, I have to reccomend Smash Brothers as the universal one.   Mario Party, Monkey Ball, etc. they are far too complex for little kids who need constant action, eye candy, and button mashing... all of which Smash Brothers provide.

I don't know how Gamestop is, but I know EBGames lets you return an open game for full store credit (once per game).   I too bought Animal Corssing before, but returned it to the EBGames as I didn't like it much either.  I was in the same boat as you.

I give you a 6/10 on that whine.

You have to realize the purpose of these games w/ link up capabilities is to get Gameboy owners (a MUCH huger user base) incentive to buy a Gamecube.  Not the other way around.   Yeah, it shafts GC only owners somewhat, but hey lifes not fair.

IGN says you can but you'll be severley limited in your abilities I believe.
