General Gaming / RE:Final Fantasy 12 Website Up And Running
« on: September 27, 2003, 06:34:19 PM »
If the series was better before. . . than why is it selling higher now.  And what's your problem with the character designs, a completely new story and characters needs new designs, it's as simple as that and I'm sure I don't see people walking around half-naked(like in FFX).  Violence and sex sells. . . there's truth to that except, what does that have to do with Final Fantasy.  First off, how many people do you see die in FF, not many.  Does a little violence hurt your soft heart, Billy-boy.

Sex, with exceptions to the upcoming FFX-2. . . where?(can skip next section if you want)

Yuna in FFX is the cleanest, most respectful girl
Rikku is dressed completely normal or does seeing some legs and a sleeveless shirt irritate you
Lulu isn't attractive to me, but she has cool design which isn't revealing
Garnet has some big breast, but she's deformed like a kid
Eiko. . . she's a kid
Rinoa has the best designs im my eyes and I don't see any skin on her
Selphie. . . lots of legs and breasts, ya got me there
Quistis is finely dressed, a little sexiness doesn't hurt

And lastly, you Billy seem to be the biggest female admirer with every single one of your avatar pictures being girls so you're hating on yourself.

I'm sure that Square could care less for a group of former-fans who dislike the newer FFs since they're bringing in an even larger fan base with the newer Playstation "classics."

Grey, I am taking your word for it for now...Please will this game be good!

People these days. . . to go as far as to say some games will suck without first hand experience.  Anyways, for all those who thinks the shift from Nintendo to Sony or 2D to 3D games of Final Fantasy sucked, have you ever played FF I-VI.

I - complete garbage, no comments necessary
II - very weak overall in terms of gameplay, sound, and story
III - never played
IV - this was some good stuff. . . for its' time
V - it was okay, the story is weak as hell and the job system is crappy
VI - good stuff, except I'm sure if this were remade with 3D graphics, this would have been a movie-like RPG too like FFX which isn't a bad thing.

Once again, I'd like to point to my sig and say, "your words doesn't represent everyone!"  There are some that dislike FF *cough. . . Nintendo fanboys. . .cough*, but there are more who love it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:square enix's next gamecube game
« on: September 27, 2003, 05:28:03 PM »
Square Enix has another GameCube game planned????  I guess it could be possible.  Anyways, Crystal Chronicles resembles the Mana series more than Final Fantasy so I doubt GCN will get a Mana game.  If I were to choose any Square Enix series other than Final Fantasy to be brought to GCN, I'd go with a Chrono game.  Chrono Trigger was amazing for its' time(gameplay wise, it still is) and Chrono Cross was a worthy sequel.

But I'd have to say that Kingdom Hearts(which I don't like) would fit into GameCube's line-up the most.

Pretty easy actually.  What if the final battle against Sephiroth was actually just one of his clones?  Endless possibilities. . . endless possibilities indeed.  Oh yeah, I need to see what Tifa, one of my favourite video game girl, looks like and hope hopefully I won't see that other girl.

Cool, I'll be drooling until that day.  Let's see, there's FFX-2, FFXI, FFXII, FFCC, and the recently released FFTA.  That's 5 Final Fantasy title that will release within a year.  Normally, for any other series, I'd say the series is getting overused, but each and the ones before it are unique from one another and they usually get better.

What's so bad about FFX feeling like a movie?  Is trying new things a bad thing or do we(gamers) want to play the same stuff over and over, in that case RPGs and every other genre would be long dead.  And I would like to say that FFX has more gameplay than many other RPGs I've played.

If you have any proof(a link), then I'll believe it.  And even if it's true, Nintendo still dumped Rare.

The story was better, the level of exploration was amazing, the puzzles were dynamic, intruiging, and never so hard you get frustrated, and there was so much to do you could beat the game and not have done half of what was available for you to do.

And you have GOT to be kidding about graphics- Kingdom Hearts looks good, but Metroid Prime is one of the most visually stunning videogames I've ever seen, both technically and artistically speaking. Only a blind person would honestly think there was no difference between PS2 and Gamecube graphics, much less between Kingdom Hearts and Metroid Prime specifically. This goes beyond being a mere opinion and tranverses into the world of stupidity. Does anyone else here ACTUALLY see no graphical difference between the PS2 and Gamecube, or think that Metroid Prime and Kingdom Hearts look equally good?

KH vs MP, there's no way MP has a better story.  It's definitely deep, but it happens through reading instead of cutscenes.  As for the graphics between the two, MP is technically better, but I'd rather be looking at KH instead.

I don't see what's to like in M&L.  I've seen a few screens and heard about the gameplay('A' button makes Mario jump, 'B' button makes Luigi jump), and I don't feel any interest at all.

General Gaming / RE:GTA III To be Released in Japan.
« on: September 19, 2003, 07:50:23 PM »
Even if the scores were 70s, the game(s) still would have sold an insane amount of copy.  I can see many reasons why this game is so appealing(Note: let's remember that I'm not a GTA fan by the way):

- two minutes in, and there's already complete freedom to do as you please
- huge cities to explore with cool reactions to stuff(the ambulance coming to help a guy/girl that was run over)
- super good car designs
- amazing voice-acting

Then there's the bad:

- worst on-foot controls(running and gunning) in a game
- repetitive missions
- super bad character models
- too much focus on violence(?)

Rare's possibly my favourite developer.  I know some people will lash out if there was a thread about how Monolith Soft was overrated, but ofcourse I don't think that(, you know who you are).

General Gaming / RE:Rare: A Year Later

For all the Rare haters(aka Nintendo fanboys), the solid proof that Rare made mostly "A" class titles, here are the average rankings of all N64 and GCN titles from Gamerankings.com:

Killer Instinct Gold - 69.4%
Blast Corps - 87.6
Diddy Kong Racing - 87.7
Goldeneye 007 - 95.9
Banjo-Kazooie - 92.0
Donkey Kong 64 - 88.6
Jetforce Gemini - 80.6
Banjo-Tooie - 89.2
Perfect Dark - 95.0
Conker's Bad Fur Day - 90.1
StarFox Adventures - 80.7

And there you have it, an 87% average.  So what if the games didn't age well, they were good for their times and some still are.  Let's not forget that they thrive in many different genres too.  Well, let's hear it Rare haters, any comments for one of the few Rare fans alive that's a Nintendo fanboy as well.

That and I don't have the money. It's hard enough supporting a Gamecube, PS2, an GBA, it would be hell with an XBox, too.

Umm. . . wow, it's like looking into a mirror of words.  Your words reflect my opinion 90% except that I want what Team Ninja has to offer(DOA Series, Ninja Gaiden), and I'm looking forward to the Rare games.

I loved rare(emphasis on LOVED), but you cannot  compare them to silicon knights and retro studios.

I'd trade SK and RS for Rare back anytime of the week, not that I have anything against them.

Killer Instinct-supposed to be a launch title-delayed
Goldeneye-delayed over 18 months
BK-delayed 6 months
Dk64-delayed
Perfect Dark-Delayed
Conker-delayed numerous times
Dinosaur planet-delayed numerous times

And thats horrendous. I;'m sure all those games were delayed at some point, but i remember those listed. That was the main problem with Rare, waiting years for games they announced

So.  Even if these games were delayed(not sure myself), they still managed to dish out atleast one game a year and usually more.  The most delayed Rare game I can think of is Dinosaur Planet(aka SFA), but it's nothing in comparison to Silicon Knight's Eternal Darkness or the game so many are waiting upon, Too Human, not to mention that MGS: tTS may be delayed until march next year.

h=have, np=never played

Killer Instinct Gold - h

Diddy Kong Racing - h
Goldeneye 007 - h

11 games in 7 years.  That's way more than anything that Silicon Knights, Retro Studios, Hal. Laboratory, or EAD can do combined and I'm sure after they got used to developing for GCN after SFA, they'd be dishing out even more.
