A Japanese RPG from the Canadian division of a French games company... is your mind blown?

Artistic platformer/RPG, Child of Light, is coming to the Wii U eShop next year, Ubisoft announced during their recent Digital Day event.

Built on the same UbiArt Framework engine that powered Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, Child of Light is a Japanese-style role-playing game in development at Ubisoft Montreal, under the helm of Far Cry 3 creative director Patrick Plourde. It is inspired by fairy tales and epic poetry, with all character dialogue in the game being spoken in rhyming patterns.

As Aurora, the player must retake the kingdom of Lemuria from the influence of the evil Black Queen, with the help of her guide Igniculus, who can be controlled by a second player. The game, which features an watercolor art style, includes puzzle-platforming elements and a turn-based Active Time Battle System akin to those seen in many classic Squaresoft RPG titles.

Child of Light is scheduled for release on Wii U, as well as other home consoles, in 2014.

Japanese-Style RPG?

Okay, the last time I saw a game that fit this description, it was Septerra Core.  Remember that one?

I guess Ubisoft is trying to jump on the bandwagon of the JRPG craze.   It's making it hard to be a proper JRPG fan, with JRPG's being SO POPULAR these days.  JRPG's are just PRINTING MONEY here in the West.  Yeah, sure.  that's it.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

People bemoan companies following trends and releasing nothing but sequels then a company decides to buck the trends and offer something niche and people still complain. Make up your goddamn minds. Maybe this won't sell millions like Call of Duty and Madden, but it might still be a good game. Jebus, mofos are hard to please.

I think it sounds interesting, I'll look into it after it's released.
