The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace.
From the quiet isolation of space comes this audio file of two guys talking about shooting aliens with a laser gun. Presented by Anonymous Dinosaur and Nintendo World Report, this is Smashterpieces - a casual walk through the history of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster. On this show, hosts Joe DeVader and Matt Zawodniak are playing one game for every fighter in the newest Super Smash Bros. game, from 1984's Duck Hunt to 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Each game will be live-streamed by both of us, and then we'll convene to talk about it on the podcast.
So far we've played 15 games, and this week we're looking at Smashterpiece #16: Super Metroid! We dive into a classic game that defined an entire genre, and even features our first major female protagonist to boot! What do we think of the game’s design? How did Joe do on his very first playthrough of the game ever? How do we feel about the bosses and abilities? And why oh why can’t Joe figure out how to wall jump? All this and more in today’s episode!
Join us next time as we set out on a quirky psychic journey in Smashterpiece #17: Earthbound
