Style Savvy: Fashion Forward Journal #2

Same style, different day.

Not much happened today. I continued my quest to become the greatest fashionista in town and met some new folks along the way. The most interest person was Rainbow who, in my head, is voiced by Amy Sedaris. She hangs out in the park and, if you give her an in-game photograph, she will reward you with a new hair color if she finds a color she hasn’t seen yet. I haven’t really figured out the behind-the-scenes algorithm that determines whether or not a new color will appear, but it seems to be based on new events or locations. I’m sure I’ll figure it out with a little trial and error.

People occasionally give you miniatures just for talking to them, which is handy. Some random passers-by have little icons next to them (like a colorful exclamation mark or an asterisk) but I haven’t really figured out what those icons mean. The exclamation mark seems to mean that person will tell you where a new color might show up for Rainbow. But several of the locations they suggest have not been unlocked yet, which is irritating. There’s clearly more game here than I’ve been able to see right now.

My boss, Ricky, announced he’d like to put on a fashion show since fashion is suddenly really popular since Selena moved in to town. He’s selling tickets, which seems to be tied to how satisfied my customers are. My customer satisfaction rating is off the charts, but there are still two empty seats. Are ticket sales tied to total number of happy customers or individual spectacularly happy customers? I haven’t managed to figure this out yet. One woman bought a ticket after I did her hair, but she didn’t seem any happier with her new ‘do than any other customer.

Finally, I sold all the tickets I needed to sell, so it was time to make outfits for my models (and myself). The theme was “girlie,” so that helpfully pared down the possible list of brands to one. The fashion show is really just a scene of your character walking around the runway, and you can make them pose and/or toss some sparkles in the air. After it’s over, you’re given a star rating as supposedly given by the attendees (I got three stars out of three). Then it’s just over, and Ricky says let’s start working on the next one! And life goes on.

So after that, I tried Amiibo support.

Hint: check this list of supported Amiibos: http://www.nintendo.com/amiibo/games/detail/style-savvy-fashion-forward-3ds

The Amiibo scanner is accessed from the cell phone menu. You tap a compatible Amiibo, after registering it (if you haven’t already), a new customer will show up in your boutique.

The downside is that the game assumes you’re a girl, so this customer will be a Style Savvy-ized version of your Mii character, but refer to your Mii as “a girl I met.” It’s weird enough seeing my own Mii’s head reverse-engineered by the game’s character modeler, but they refer to my own Mii in the female just made me think Style Savvy’s target audience is too narrowly defined.

The customer will always ask for an outfit to match a piece of character-themed clothing they’re already wearing. For Princess Peach, it’s a crown. For Palutina, it’s an “inner.” For Samus, it’s a terrible-looking visor. Once you create a winning clothing combo, you have to select “Try it On!” which is the riskier of the two options—you only get one chance to satisfy the customer instead of three. If they’re happy with it, they’ll buy the whole outfit and give you that character-specific item for your apartment wardrobe. Of course, Best Princess gives the best piece of clothing.

Hoping for more features tomorrow. I know that, eventually, you can design your own clothes.

Designing your own clothes? That wasn't possible in the original DS game, right? I know it wasn't in Trendsetters. I picked up Federation Force instead of this game, but it's definitely on my must-have list. Trendsetters was a lot of fun. I look forward to reading more impressions and journals, Halbred! Thanks for these!

I'm now seriously debating in my head now if you are crazy for even thinking of buying this. :D

I know you're just teasing, but these games really have a lot of good stuff to them. The customization, the problem solving, figuring out how to make your customers happy, and things like that are a lot of fun, at least for me. It's definitely not for everyone!
