In our first edition, we’ll explore the cosmos in one of the most savagely difficult NES games of all time.
Before we begin, let’s go over a little bit of comic book history to get you up to speed on who the Silver Surfer is. Back in the 1960s, a Marvel Comics duo by the names of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were hard at work on their soon-to-be legendary run on Fantastic Four. Unbeknownst to Lee, Kirby decided to throw in a brand new character for their Galactus story arc named, what else, the Silver Surfer.

The Surfer, originally a man named Norrin Radd, was from a far-off planet threatened with annihilation via the cosmic planet-eater Galactus. He sacrificed his freedom to become the Herald of his world’s would-be destroyer, forever searching the cosmos for planets to consume in place of his own. Eventually, he found his way to Earth, putting him in direct opposition to the Fantastic Four.
Luckily, Norrin eventually decides to forsake his master and aids Earth in driving away Galactus. Afterwards, he turns his cosmic surfboard upwards to the great unknown of space, seeking to right wrongs and hopefully, one day, find true redemption.
