Dream Game: Muppet Simulator

In honor of the Blu-ray release of Muppets Most Wanted, Zack has thought up what might be the greatest game idea in history.

Muppets Most Wanted was just released on Blu-ray so now, more than ever, is an appropriate time to talk about Muppets. If there is one media format that they have been sorely lacking quality content in, it’s video games. Thankfully, as NWR's resident Muppet maniac, I have an idea for a Muppet game.

If there is one area of gaming the Muppets have succeeded in recently it is mobile games.. For those unfamiliar, My Muppets Show it is a mobile game where you manage your own Muppet Theater. I would love to see this concept be taken and made into a full-fledged retail release on 3DS.

Simply titled Muppet Simulator 2015, a play on the deluge of "simulator" games out there (Goat, Farm, Train, Bus, etc,). Muppets Simulator would start with a tutorial that would have players doing Kermit’s job while he's away, presumably back at the swamp. The game would feature three modes. Endless Mode would have players managing the Muppet Theater which would go on until the player runs out of money. A leader board would also be available to compare financial success to players worldwide. Along the way it would also be possible to create advertisements for your theater to share on Miiverse.

The second mode of the game would be Challenge, which would have different problems arising in the theater with various Muppets giving the player the task of solving their dilemmas. One possible example is that Fozzie could have lost a banana for his gag and can’t go on stage until the player finds it. Each challenge is scored and you can share your results online.

History Mode, my personal favorite, is a trip through The Muppet Show's five seasons. Each of the guest stars would be featured in a series of challenges, one for each episode. While that may seem impossible to do with copyright issues, this is only an idea so we don't really need to worry about at this stage.

While in History Mode, players would be in charge of managing the theater during each star's appearance in a series of 120 challenges. Each challenge would have a set of "Muppechivements" that would unlock music, pictures, or the occasional video from the episodes. This is notable because it would be the only 3DS game to feature performers kids these days would have no idea existed. Mummenschanz anyone? Muppet trivia would be unlocked and the entire mode could educate kids as to how the TV they have today is crap compared to what the Muppet show did in the 70s and 80s.

As a bonus, if a player fully finishes History mode, they would unlock the entirety of Muppet Vision 3D. As an attraction at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, its inclusion would be significant because it was Jim Henson's last work with the Muppets before his passing. It would be the first time it could be viewed officially at home and in 3D.

I have some ideas in my head for a Wii U Muppet game, and don’t worry it isn’t Call of Fozzie: Waka Waka Warfare, so be sure to let me know if you liked this. If you didn't, you can join Staler and Waldorf in the balcony for some quality heckling.
