Mario Kart looks so smooth on the video and the gliding really looks like it adds a lot to the racing.  I can't wait for this one.  As for Sonic Generations, this video has officially put it on my 2011 buy list.  It looks absolutely phenomenal, and more importantly, fun!

Yah Mario Kart is looking nice. But then again when hasn't a Mario Kart game been awesome.

Double Dash.

I liked Double Dash!!.

I liked Double Dash too. I loved how you could have 2met characters on one kart and that each pair had special items of their own. I wish they kept that in the ones that did and will follow.

Mario Kart 64 may not have aged well, but it was definitely awesome at the time.

I still stand by to this day that Double Dash is the best Mario Kart.  I love DS and I do like the Wii one.  (Though not enough to own a personal copy because of DS.)  A game I can play with my Mom and she actually enjoy it or with my Son who can enjoy it and its not super critical he does anything is a win.

The Wii U version of Mario Kart definitely needs a DD mode.

What do the coins actually do?

They increase your top speed, the same as in the original game.

I hated Double Dash for the crappy graphics, the extremely narrow tracks for such huge karts, and the over all track design. Not to mention it was the slowest Mario Kart by far, I remember that being an issue during the first preview of E3. 150 cc couldn't even resolve that.

Double Dash was okay, it at least had an interesting dynamic that tried to spice up the gameplay. I consider Mario Kart Super Circuit to be the worst game in the series, although I don't really like any of them besides Mario Kart Wii.

Mario Kart DS is the best game in the series, but it's also one of the hardest to get a good game going of. Even with the ridiculous sales of both the game and the system, it's still tougher to get a group together for it than to get four people in front of a TV. The online is broken and fairly limited even if you manage to get a game together where people won't snake. But man, when I was at PAX and in the MKDS tournament it was just amazing.

What's so good about Mario Kart DS? Most of the tracks are pretty simple and don't make good on their overlaying concepts, and the series' awful control before Mario Kart Wii is made even worse by the lack of analogue control.

I thought the track design in DS was significantly better than that of Wii, and more tied to actual Mario games, and I feel like the controls are much more precise in DS than in Wii. Mario Kart doesn't really need analog, and DS's controls are much tighter for the lack of it.

The best Mariokart is MarioKart: Super Circuit for the GBA.

I've spent many hours playing the 64 version with friends so it'll be near and dear to my heart always (so much drunk driving*), but Super Circuit had it all - The tracks, the tight controls, and the lack of terrible items.

*Drunk Driving is a game where all the contestants start off with an unopened beer. The objective is to finish your beer before winning the race. You cannot drink and drive at the same time. If you want to drink, you have to put down your controller and start chugging.

nickmitchOctober 18, 2011

That sounds like an awesome game. I'm so gonna do it.

StogiOctober 19, 2011

Word of advice. Just chug the whole beer from the get go and rack up them lightnings and stars.

Oh and if you lose...you still have to drink your beer.

Mario Kart DS is broken and unbalanced. I agree the track designs are great, but trying to find a game online without someone snaking is damn near impossible. (Back when I used to play online that is)

Mario Kart 64 suffered due to its relative early release in the realm of 3D console games (just as Banjo-Kazooie did). People designing early 3D games pretty much forgot what made games good in the transition from 2D to 3D. Mario Kart 64 may have had decent track design if the tracks weren't so inflated and desolate. Just because you can make a track that is 10 minutes long, doesn't mean you should.
