Does the 3DS version look the best?

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is heading to 3DS later this year. The new E3 2011 trailer for the game features footage from the opening cut-scene and gives us a chance to see how the game stacks up to the original version on PlayStation 2. I combined the trailer footage with video captured from the PS2. Watch the video below.

It seems to be a toss up their not really that far apart but in some of it the 3DS version has more details but then at the end their his face is better in the PS2 one.

I notice his clothes flapping in the breeze look better right before the HALO jump on the 3DS version. Doesn't look as good as the tech demo for last year's E3.

While it is a pretty big toss-up and there are some parts on the 3DS that, I think look better, IMO the PS2 version looks superior. Not that it really matters to me, I'm not a huge MGS fan, I'm just waiting for more news of Super Mario 3DS ^_^

The PS2 one looks more saturated and has some sort of filter on. At least thats what it looks like.

I think when you play it the game will blow the ps2 one out of the water, final build obviously is better than one in development and playing in 3d on that nice screen will make it harder to see flaws that a TV will show

When you consider the 3DS is rendering that image twice.....

Sorry, but I don't understand the point of this comparison.  The MGS3 3DS is an enhanced PS2 port (mainly updated for 3D and use of the camera).  It's not new software that is built from the ground up to take advantage of the 3DS hardware.

People were badmouthing it online saying it looked much worse than the PS2 version.

I thought this was done out of morbid curiosity. The 3DS version is superior in every way. More pixels, higher polygon count, cleaner sharper textures, more/better/accurate effects, shaders, lack of PS2 blur, no green filter. Not to mention rendered at a full 60FPS at a higher res or 30FPS in 3D mode plus the additional calculations required for 3D mode, things this video can't show.

It's all very subtle due to design and cost. It's not cost effective to redo every texture, every model, every effect. They are going to prioritise getting a smooth, working bug-free game out over a complete rebuild of every single aspect.

I was hoping for, you know, HD graphics or something.

Hey you can have that too, but you need to buy it again on the HD collection :p
