Nintendo is supposedly offering smartphone to Wii U software to help expedite the process.

Nintendo may be offering up smartphone-to-Wii U  conversion software to application developers in an effort to bring apps to Wii U, according to The Japan Times.

The goal would be to increase sales of the system by having more popular titles available for download. The story also states that Nintendo is developing new games/software for the Wii U and making that a focus.

This Strategy has been tried before and let me tell you it doesn't work.

Oh man, think about it:  if I could get awesome games like Temple Run, Angry Birds Space, and...

Oh, you're right.

As someone who has no intentions of getting an iPad anytime soon, I wouldn't mind seeing some of the mobile gamings best coming to Wii U.  Just don't charge me $5.99 for something thats a buck on the App Store.

Mobile games are a different breed, but honestly I'm TOTALLY GAME for anything that puts more Tower Defenses on Nintendo platforms. And there ARE a bunch of mobile-originated games I already know I'd be happy to get. Heck, I already own Cut The Rope on DSiWare!

This sounds in line with previous efforts by Nintendo on web-based tools and the Unity engine.

There will be jokes that Wii U will go from "no games to phone games," but I'm interested in what may come from this.

3DS is already getting mobile games. They had that squirrel game last week.

More games is always good.

Is "phone game" the new kiddie or casual or wagglefest?

Tower Defenses is what you want? I've been playing Starship Defense on 3DS and I love it $5!

Having played that game.  I can only imagine how many phones were broken out of frustration w/ controls.
