We're back! Maybe too back.

Jon Lindemann has been a key part of the show for months, but he takes center stage on this episode... even when he's not present. The rest of us chat about Dr. Mario and Star Wars Battlefront 2 during the first segment, with an ultra-geeky argument over the Star Wars movies somewhere in the middle.

Lindy finally joins us in the latter half, and we set off to analyze recent news stories like the announcement of Guitar Hero: World Tour, the new Tecmo Bowl games, and a steaming pile of crap from Ubisoft.

Talkback

Man oh man.  This is a long one.  2 hours 20 minutes and change.

If that's not enough for you.  Here's a bonus stinger!

DAaaMan64June 06, 2008

Thanks Crimm!

D_AverageJune 06, 2008

Wow!  How does Greg know more about College Football than the rest of the RFN staff??  Hilarious!

This is not true.  I have a very strong knowledge of the subject.

YoshidiousGreg Leahy, Staff AlumnusJune 06, 2008

The NFL's my area of expertise, as we actually get to see that over here on TV. My knowledge of college football is mostly limited to the aspects of it that relate to the NFL, so I doubt I outrank any of my RFN colleagues in that regard actually.

GoldenPhoenixJune 06, 2008

So if I listen to this podcast I get to hear complaining about the prequels and George Lucas? Maybe I should skip this one!

Awesome, this means you've witnessed the amazing feats of Devin Hester, the man who single handedly took the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006!

My brother's a huge Bears fan, so I'm quite intimately familiar with Hester and the team as a whole. They did have one of the best defenses in the league in '06 as well as a good running game, so it certainly wasn't all Hester. But to be two TDs away from breaking the all-time record for career kick/punt TDs in just two seasons in the league is unbelievable - Devin Hester, you are ridiculous!

Check out what IGN says about Family Table Tennis:

Quote:

You can do much better things with five dollars. Buy yourself some marbles. Buy your five friends some gum. Or maybe you'd like a yo- yo? I honestly don't care if you throw your five dollars in the trash. Just don't buy this game. Otherwise, there might be a sequel, I might have to play it, and I might have to kill myself. Seriously, even for five dollars, Family Table Tennis is offensive, epitomizing exactly the type of ambitionless software we don't want on WiiWare or on Wii.

Devin Hester, you are ridiculous!

Why did they resign Rex Grossman?  WHY GOD WHY?  I will never understand why they didn't draft Brohm.

I'm a massive Atlanta Falcons fan, hence Greg's comments about Petrino.  Greg and I often converse about football, but the conversations are usually like:

Greg: OMG Buffalo bills r the bestz JP losman iz my dad LOlzoorrrzzz!!!!!
Jon: I'm sorry Greg, I missed that because I was too busy learning the intricacies of the 4-3 defense.

Man I wish I would have made the first part of this podcast.  There would have been BLOOD

EDIT: Yes, Greg, please review Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.  And Jonny, go to hell.

Rex Grossman (warning: not worksafe)

Oh yeah, the Packers!

to talk about the neo geo game titles the ps1 was worse.  late in its life they had a ton of games just called what they were.  there was darts, shooter, billiards, fighter, and im pretty sure racer.  i cant remember the name of the company that made these games, and they all retailed for 20 bucks.  i remember working at game stop at the time and wanting to become a programer just so i could work for that company.

update:  the company was agetec

not that any one cares but me.

ShyGuyJune 07, 2008

Wait, if you get NFL in the UK, do they call it Football? American Football? Freedom Fries Ball?

How does one become a fishing master? Do you unlock master bait to use?

i think with the translation it comes out to "super awesome donkey putt putt".  American to English translations are really tough.

D_AverageJune 07, 2008

Looks like GoNintendo may have officially been offended.  Just checked their website and there is no link to RFN 101 to be found.  No loss.

I've listed to The Wiire a couple times too.  Nice guys, well organized, but man o man, so utterly boring.  Shoot yourself in the leg kind of boring.

Hey, I'm not the one who called it the "Let's be stupid cast."  That came from GP.

animecyberratJune 07, 2008

damn I didn't get to the end because my internet is acting weird again. This time i think it is the router, as it has been giving me problems for some time now.

I got to the part where you guys started talking about Madden and Pro Evo Soccer.

With the greater brand awareness over here these days, a lot of the time it can just be referenced as "the NFL" and assumed that the audience knows what is being talked about. Outside of that, it's referred to as American Football.

I think Greg is an anomaly among Brits in terms of his fascination with the NFL.  He follows it more closely than I do, and I'm one of those "check the Falcons page on ESPN.com and AJC.com every day" kinda guys.

I'll never know why he sticks with the Bills, though.  I mean, Buffalo isn't even a nice place to visit, so that shatters the "One day I'll see my team play at home in person" dream right there.  Greg, you should have picked Miami or San Diego.

I just started the podcast and I'm really enjoying this episode of Radio Free Star Wars.

As for EA Sports, the Wii games do have the standard options in addition to Family Play, the big thing in Nintendo Power says so.

Errrrrr no, you're not going to convince me I should've picked Miami. And I have been to Buffalo to see them in person, it was entirely awesome and I'm sure the city needed my tourist dollars, so put that in your pipe and smoke it ;)

MorariJune 08, 2008

Florida (and thus Miami) is crap place anyway. It's hot and humid.

Actually, the Bills have a large number of Canadian fans.  In fact, they come to the games in such numbers there was a little talk of moving them a few miles, which would put them in Canada.

Actually, I defend the Star Wars prequels in some ways.

Regarding other Nintendo podcasts, I downloaded last week's episode of IGN Nintendo Voice Chat and did enjoy that.  It's very brisk and has little in-depth discussion since they cover so many topics in an hour.  I think it's a nice complement to our leisurely meandering style.

Say what you will about IGN, but they're quite good at producing podcasts and videos.

GoldenPhoenixJune 08, 2008

I love IGN's podcast with Mark and Matt, I look forward to it ALMOST as much as I look forward to your guy's.

ShyGuyJune 09, 2008

Another good podcast, I liked the Star Wars talk, do Lord of the Rings next.

DAaaMan64June 09, 2008

You should do Lord of the Nut Sack Flies

i think they are planning to play several games here in Toronto over the next couple of years or something like that.

And also, you can talk about Star Wars or Star Trek all you want without sounding like a total geek as long as you speak english. I say "english" because a co-worker of mine told me horrible stories about people in costumes arguing very loud in a the middle of comic book/sci-fi conventions about "who is the better captain, Picard or Kirk?" in klingon.... yes.... KLINGON.... think about it.

Deep-SixJune 10, 2008

so... what was the bleeped word.

Anyway, I only listen to 3 podcast and in order from what I think is best to least goes as follows

1. NWR
2. GoNintendo
3. IGN

IGN is so unenthusiastic in their podcasts that I only listen to them because they've played games that haven't been released yet, and for little slips of exclusive news (like the Kid Icirus Game)

GoNintndo is more of just a bunch of funny guess messing around while reading news, reader-mail, and guessing what music is from which old game.  It's like your podcast if it wasn't organized.

Plus: Greg FTW!!!!!!

DAaaMan64June 10, 2008

cunt I think

GoldenPhoenixJune 10, 2008

Looks like the "Let's Be Stupid" cast has a fan!

DAaaMan64June 10, 2008

IGN is great for news (they're basically Nintendo's Press Secretary) and RFN is great for analysis, debates, and laughs.  The only other Nintendo centric show I like is Infendo.  Scott and Blake have a great enthusiasm for Nintendo, while still being objective in their praise and criticism.

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorJune 11, 2008

This may have already been said, but the Balance Board registers as controller 4 when you push the home button.  That would seem to point to it not being able to recognize 4 because at least one controller would have to be a remote.

Buffalo's two biggest tourist attractions, IMHO:

1) Border crossing to Canada
2) Airport

YoshidiousGreg Leahy, Staff AlumnusJune 11, 2008

Forget all the Buffalo hate, the important thing is here is that the gameday experience of seeing the Bills was awesome. Conversely, if I wanted the joy of warm weather, a vibrant economy and empty seats, then I would be a Dolphins fan.

animecyberratJune 11, 2008

NO love for the Packers? Good cuz I hate the Packers.

not close, actually a Dallas Cowboys fan to be honest. I just hate the Packers, I would gladly offer up my legitimate reasoning behind the why, but not here.

Alright, even Cowboy fans hate the Packers!

I can't wait for this season to start, my respect for Farve these past few years has made it tough to wish calamity and destruction upon grown men with cheese on their heads.  This year will be different.

Edit: I PM Crimm just to play back his voice in my head... *Sigh*

Hey guys.  It will be out today.  I just got home.  All I need to do is do a little bit of AAC stuff and update the feed.

I'm sorry for being so late this week, I started a new job.  It shouldn't be an issue next week.

DAaaMan64June 13, 2008

Thats cool. Congrats on the Jay Oh Bee

ShyGuyJune 13, 2008

I hope Linderman addresses his forum trolling. ;)
