Buffed deer can't stop this game from growing stale quickly.

When I witnessed Cutie Pets Pick Berries for the first time, I couldn't stop noticing the manly looking deer. They almost seemed like the centerpiece of this game, so naturally I had to find out what was up. Sadly, the answers at the other side weren't as exciting as you might expect. Cutie Pets Pick Berries is a simple puzzle game and there is honestly not much to it.

Two buffed deer look at you from the television screen, but nothing is going on there. Cutie Pets Pick Berries plays solely on the Wii U GamePad, where you have to clear circles of berries. You do this by making sets as quickly as possible before the timer runs out. Completing a circle scores you points and you will repeat the cycle over until you fail.

With the stylus at the ready, this seems easy enough. With the emphasis on ''seems'', because this action-puzzler actually gets hard. The room for error is crazy small and one mistake could easily mean the end for you. Cutie Pets Pick Berries requires a sharp mind and only the best scores can grace the Miiverse community.

There are no leaderboards within the game, which feels like such a missed opportunity. There are also no other modes outside of this one. The only reason you would keep playing is to unlock some absurd Miiverse stamps, which can only keep you engaged for so long. The stamps honestly gave me the biggest grin though, so I can give the developers props for that at least.

At the end of day, there is not much to Cutie Pets Pick Berries. The style is silly, but there is no substance to give it any weight. It is entertaining for a little bit, but after that, the game offers nothing to compel the people who foolishly purchased it. That is the saddest part about it.

Summary

Pros
  • Style is funny
  • Tricky for a bit
Cons
  • Extremely little content
  • No leaderboard option
