Find the problems with the title and you will get a special medal.

Never has there been a more straightforward title than Spot the Differences. It tells you what the game is all about and what you can expect when you purchase it. You try to spot the differences in a variety of pictures and when you get all five, you move on the next photo. Every correct difference found scores you points and you’re given a grand total when you fail in the end. There are no surprises along the way, no help items that could change the outcome, nor any additional modes to unlock. You get exactly what was advertised, but does that make it actually fun?

The two pictures are spread across the two separate screens of the Nintendo 3DS. While that may sound somewhat unpleasant at first, they actually made some clever workarounds to make it tick. The image is zoomed in and by stroking on the touchscreen, you can look at all the aspects up close. The picture quality is great, so spotting the difference shouldn't be a problem. The differences are sometimes really tricky to spot though as you constantly have to split your attention across the two screens. You need to be quick and that might serve as a respectable challenge, but that is not something every player can get behind.

When your journey through pictures finally ends, they will tell you what you missed on your last picture. It is a good incentive to do it better next time and helps you to improve on your skills. After this, you will be sent to some local leaderboards where you can enter your name. Sadly, there isn’t an online version of these leaderboards to compare your scores with everyone else. Instead, you are just stuck with retrying your luck on the 150 photos this game has on offer. It is fun to play it for a couple of minutes and then you need to put it down again before boredom takes over.

The UI and overall presentation is well put together and everything looks and works well. Music wise, there is just one track for the menus and one during gameplay. This will drive you quite mental after a while and I mostly played it with the sound off for that reason.

Spot the Differences! is a no thrills experience that does little more than what its title suggests. With more than 150 pictures, there is certainly some content but it won't last you for long. It is an enjoyable thing that you can play for a couple of minutes a day and then go back to at later time. There is a lack of options and you will need to get used to the set-up, but there are a lot worse things you can buy on the Nintendo eShop.
