Namco's hit RPG series is hitting the GameCube! The land of Symphonia awaits...
The original Tales of Phantasia for Super Famicom has spawned many sequels from its original release in 1995, and surprisingly one of them is now an exclusive to the Nintendo GameCube. Earlier last year, Namco unveiled what is now known as Tales of Symphonia, featuring wonderful cel-shaded graphics. This is a first for the series to hit the third dimension, and the results so far are quite spectacular.
Namco recently revealed the three main characters of the game via the Official Tales of Symphonia website.

Though the game is the first 3D Tales, the battle system won't be too unfamiliar for fans of past titles. Called the Multi-Line Linear Motion Battle system, characters and enemies will attack on invisible planes. For instance, when one character targets an enemy, there will be a 2D plane for either to attack. Another character can also jump in from a different perspective creating another plane.
More interestingly, Makoto Yoshidumi commented that Symphonia will boast the largest cast of main characters for a Tales game. In addition, players will be able to build a relationship with the others, much like in Star Ocean 2. By playing through the game multiple times, one will be able to unlock secret scenes and areas by pursuing these friendship relationships. Fans will rejoice as Cooking will also remain in the title, and many other mini games will be included.
Tales of Symphonia marks the first "serious" RPG to be developed solely for the GameCube. And let us tell you, it shouldn't disappoint.
