Super Smash Bros. GBA

by Max Lake - May 3, 2001, 11:59 am EDT

Nintendo is looking into a Smash Bros title for the Game Boy Advance. Will it see the light of day? If so, what form will it take?

Let it be said that March 7th , 2001 was a historic day for Nintendophiles. Not only did it commemorate PlanetN2000’s 2nd anniversary, it was also the day of it re-launched as PlanetGameCube. However, the really important thing about March 7th is that it was the day Smash Brothers 2 was confirmed & that’s not all either—PGC revealed that we heard the series would also be coming to GBA that very day. Talk about “Lucky 7!”

Shortly thereafter, Louie the Cat had a rumor claiming he had been hearing about Smash 2 for awhile & that the Game Boy Advance would possibly interact with SSB2 and feature online play. Interesting ideas, but possibly derived while Louie was under the influence of catnip…

Since then, another possibility surfaced: that the game would actually be a handheld version of the original N64 Smash Bros. Seeing as Yoshi’s Story for N64 is coming to GBA, a miniature version of SSB would seems achievable.

Which is it? Nothing has been confirmed concerning Smash Bros GBA (technically, it’s still a rumor) so it’s hard to say what’s accurate. There’s a very good chance we’ll find out at E3 though! Here’s hoping…
