Wave Race: Blue Storm

by Jon Lindemann - May 18, 2001, 5:55 pm EDT

Jon did something at E3 that he's never done in real life - ride on a Jet Ski! Does Wave Race: Blue Storm sink or swim?

I didn't play much of Wave Race 64, but I knew it was an excellent game. In particular, it had excellent water effects.

Blue Storm, while reminiscent of the N64 classic, definitely turns it up a notch.

The water effects are truly incredible. Rain drops splash against the camera, and waves look so realistic that they have to be seen to be believed. Your rider is also much more detailed. However, many of the shorelines in the game look very N64-ish; hopefully these will be spruced up by the time the game is released.

Many of the levels are loose adaptations of the N64 versions. Aspen Lake, for example, reminds one of Drake Lake. You gotta love a blast from the past.

Overall I love Wave Race: Blue Storm. The water graphics are great, the play control is dead-on, and it's just an incredibly fun game to play.
