Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles

by Jon Lindemann - May 18, 2001, 5:02 pm EDT

Is that a light saber in your pocket, or is it just a Game Boy Advance? Check out Jon's impressions, young Jedi!

Jedi Power Battles is very reminiscent of the 16-bit Star Wars titles on the Super NES. It's essentially a hack'n'slash title in which you play as Obi-Wan, Qui-Gonn, or Mace Windu, cutting down hordes of Imperial robots with your light saber. You carve your way through several levels until you finally face your nemesis, Darth Maul.

Game levels are presented in both isometric and side-scrolling views. The side-scrolling views were unfinished in the build that I played (they were empty), but the isometric-viewed levels allowed the player to traverse several hallways and chop robots in half (very cool). Play control was tight, allowing the player to jump, slash, and deflected laser fire with your light saber.

Overall this game was pretty impressive. Chances are if you liked the 16-bit Star Wars games you'll definitely appreciate this portable version.
