That's The Tasmanian Tiger, not the PGC Senior Shenanigan.

KROME STUDIOS AND DPS FILM ROMAN PARTNER TO BRING “TY THE TASMANIAN TIGER” TO ANIMATION

Australian Videogame Star Characters are Licensed in Worldwide Television and DVD Deal

Brisbane, Australia / North Hollywood, CA - July 15, 2004 – Krome Studios, one of the largest independent game development studios in the world, announced today that it has joined forces with DPS Film Roman, an IDT Entertainment Company and the leading animation company known for the hit shows "The Simpsons" and "King of The Hill," to create television and DVD productions featuring the characters from the best-selling videogame "TY the Tasmanian Tiger." The videogame series has sold well in excess of a million units worldwide. IDT Entertainment is a subsidiary of IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT, IDT.C), a multinational telecom, entertainment and technology company.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the 'TY the Tasmanian Tiger' franchise,” said Robert Walsh, chief executive officer of Krome Studios. “The light-hearted humor and mad-cap adventures of the games will be brought to a new medium and wider audience. With DPS Film Roman’s experience breathing life into animated stars such as Hank Hill to Homer Simpson, our boomerang-wielding Tasmanian tiger has prestigious company.”

“The partnership between Film Roman and Krome Studios shows the true strength of this original IP. "TY the Tasmanian Tiger" and his mates now join the elite few that have made the transition from the interactive entertainment industry to other entertainment mediums,” said Walsh.

“We are always looking to work with unique characters with global appeal, and the characters from 'TY the Tasmanian Tiger' are superstars,” added DPS Film Roman Chief Executive Officer John Hyde. “It is rare to have videogame characters developed for the pre-teen market that are suitable for the crossover, but when they do, it can be a phenomenon. We see this as an opportunity to grow an established character beyond its gaming fan base.”

A character-based action adventure game, "TY the Tasmanian Tiger" takes players through stunning animated 3D environments set in the land down under, with players embodying TY as he overcomes his past to save his family. Krome Studios is currently developing the highly anticipated sequel "TY the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue." It is scheduled for release this fall for the PlayStation(r)2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox(r) video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCubeTM, and Game Boy(r) Advance.

Huh? Seriously? I don't remember it ever being in the top ten charts. Dick Smith were selling the GameCube version for a mere $12 at one point, that maybe sold a few hundred copies or something. Oh well. I liked the first Ty game, even though I never got very far into it.

The cartoon could prove to be rather amusing, too. Thick, over-the-top Australian accents all round!

I think they just assumed that any and every Australian would purchase a game built around countless lavish stereotypes of their homeland.

Bill AurionJuly 15, 2004

SUPER deserves a TV show more than the stupid game character of the same name... -___-

MarioJuly 15, 2004

Nah, I think that meant the best selling Austalian developed game of all time.

Infernal MonkeyJuly 15, 2004

Oh. Transformers on PS2 has most likely broken that record or something by now. Or not. I think that may of flopped, sales wise. =o

DasmosJuly 15, 2004

Next thing you know they will be making tv shows out of games like pokemon!!!! Imagine that!!face-icon-small-laugh.gif

KDR_11kJuly 15, 2004

DasmosJuly 15, 2004

(Earthworm Jim is the best video game to cartoon er, cartoon series ever. Discuss)

joshnickersonJuly 16, 2004

Ha! Whatever happened to Earthworm Jim? I only saw it a few times many years ago, but what I saw was amusing. If they ever air it again, or release it on DVD, I'll have to check it out again. Too bad the games went so horribly downhill.
Somehow I don't see a "Ty" cartoon doing too well. Maybe it's just me, or the fact the game was so bad.

The only old game-based show that I still like is the old Mario cartoons (minus the 'World' cartoons, of course), simply for the campy factor. Nowadays, and I'm sure I'm going to get pummelled over this, but I think Pokemon actually has the best game based show, especially this past season which has really upped the writing and the animation.
Sonic X has some excellent animation, but it's just lacking in the plot department, not to mention the fact that Sonic hardly has any airtime in most of the episodes. He usually just shows up in the last five minutes to defeat Robotnik.
Kirby is cute, but I never really liked the series. It's just boring.
That's all of the video game shows I can think of at the moment...

"I think they just assumed that any and every Australian would purchase a game built around countless lavish stereotypes of their homeland."

I'm going to make Jacques the French-speaking Yukon Eskimo. It will be the best selling game in Canada EVER. It will be followed up by Jim the Gun-toting Redneck Hillbilly and Charles the Stuck-up Tea Drinker Who Drives on the Wrong Side of the Road. NO MARKET IS SAFE FROM MY STEREOTYPICAL CHART TOPPERS!

When did Dash Dingo become popular enough to get his own show? I have never met another human being who even remotely gives a sh!t about him. And I'm including kids. Every bargain bin in my home town is full of that game. What's next? A Vexx TV show?

That was mean.... very mean.face-icon-small-mad.gif

RandomKirbyAugust 25, 2004

face-icon-small-cool.gif I totally agree, Ty is a great game, no matter what others may think. In fact, I just created a new Yahoo! Group dedicated to him. Anyone interested in joining can go here:

Thank you very much.

MattVDBAugust 26, 2004

EWJ was the bomb. The cartoon, the games. Everything about him was cool, and fun, until he hit the 64. That was his problem right there. Ty Shughart with his own show would be amusing. I would watch it. (Dude, when I said that, I keep getting mental images of Captin Murphey from Sea Lab 2021 trying to pull something like that.)
