Talkback

Could be an interesting storyline...Lets hope the gameplay can match... although I doubt it.

Ian SaneFebruary 27, 2004

"Jonathan says: Let's see...if it's not tied into the Goldeneye storyline, and it doesn't let you play as or against Trevelyan, and it's not developed by Rare or former Rare employees...tell me again how this can be called a sequel to Goldeneye?"

I completely agree. It's bad enough that EA is pissing all over the Goldeneye legacy by releasing a sequel in the first place but the fact that it's a sequel in name only really picks my ass. Maybe when everyone buys it and is horrendously disappointed those people will actually *gasp* stop buying more Bond games like they should of the fist ten or so times EA failed to deliver on a Bond game. I have never understood why people will buy an EA Bond game, say "that's not nearly as good as Goldeneye" and then will buy the next Bond game anyway. It's NOT going to improve if you keep buying the f*cking games.

God I hate EA.

Talk about banking on name brand recognition...sheez.....sad thing is, casual gamers won't know the difference untill 50 bucks and a 1st stage romp later.

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorFebruary 27, 2004

And how much you want to bet that if it is bad, casual gamers will end up somehow blaming nintendo cause they will think they made it.

WackerJrFebruary 28, 2004

I'm glad someone's picked up on the fact that so far this game doesn't seem to have anything to do with Goldeneye! I've been wondering about this ever since the rumours started about playing as a Bond villain.

I can't really judge until more details have been released, but if they ARE simply using the Goldeneye title to sell more copies then surely that is a new low in gaming!

To be fair though, Goldeneye 2 is only a working title at this point.

Also, they haven't actually said that this'll be released on GameCube yet have they?

KDR_11kFebruary 28, 2004

Maybe someone poked their eyes out, but what do Goldfinger and Golden Eye have to do with each other?

RizeDavid Trammell, Staff AlumnusFebruary 28, 2004

The controls in everything or nothing aren't even customizable.

When I think of EA, I get vague feelings of disgust.

legendofganonFebruary 29, 2004

Judging on this article, Goldeneye 2 just seems be only a title and not a sequel. What kind of bond game doesn't have James Bond! On a good side, Maybe there will be a bonus disk with the original, but I dout it.

RizeDavid Trammell, Staff AlumnusFebruary 29, 2004

Seeing as how the original was an N64 game made by Rare for Nintendo and "Goldeneye" 2 will be a multiplatform game made by EA, I'd say the chances of having the original on the disk are about 0%.

OldskoolMarch 02, 2004

Come to think of it, who currently owns the rights to Rare's Goldeneye?

Ian SaneMarch 02, 2004

I imagine that the game itself is owned by either Rare or Nintendo (likely Rare since they retained ownership of everything but the DK games) but they probably can't re-release it without some sort of agreement with EA. This all just a shot in the dark though I have no proof or anything. I'll bet though if MS wanted to have the original game as a bonus feature for the Xbox version of Goldeneye 2 they could make it happen. As long as EA publishes it it's probably fine.

OldskoolMarch 03, 2004

Sometimes, I almost forgot Rare went Xbox exclusive. It was more of a propaganda victory than a game one. Starfox Adventures and Grabbed by Gholies proves that has gone from a "AAA" developer to a "good" developer. And Nintendo is 1/3 of a billion dollars richer.

KDR_11kMarch 04, 2004

Oh, and we still get the GBA titles, so there goes the exclusivity...
