Professor Layton's sequel beats Animal Crossing's same-quel.
The third game in the popular Professor Layton series has yet to be released outside of Japan, but if sales here are anything to go by it should prove popular when it finally does. Selling almost 350,000 copies in one week, it beat out the annualised soccer game Wining Eleven to the top spot.
Animal Crossing (known as Animal Forest in Japan) is Nintendo's only first party title for the Wii this Christmas holiday and has racked up another hundred thousand units this week.
Nintendo has several Animal Crossing commercials running on Japanese TV currently, mostly focusing on the bundled Wii Speak accessory.
The highest Wii branded software is Wii Fit at No.17, so Japanese shoppers appear to choosing Animal Crossing with their Wii consoles this Christmas.
