Nintendo issues an early morning release touting the success of the GameCube at $99.

Nintendo sent out a media alert early this morning announcing that GameCube has become the top-selling console in America since it's drop to $99.99 on Sept. 25.

Sales data from major retailers documenting sales for the week ending Oct. 4 shows GameCube outselling Xbox by 145%, and PS2 by 20%.

Once you see what's on it, you might want to pre-order if you haven't considered doing so already.

Online game retailer GameStop has listed the contents of the bonus disc that will be available to those who pre-order Mario Kart: Double Dash. The disc will feature five playable games, seven game movies, and special unlockables for a GBA game. Here's the skinny:

The strategy-RPG from LucasArts is complete and headed for manufacturing.

LucasArts announced today that Gladius, their gladiator-themed strategy-RPG for all three consoles, has completed development and is now being printed to disc for retail. The game was originally scheduled for release in spring 2003, but it was delayed several times. The current release date is October 28th.

Deadly Alliance is getting the $20 treatment across all platforms.

Finally, word of the official new price in Japan.

According to Nintendo's Japanese site, the GameCube will be dropping in price there soon as well.

On October 17, the GameCube will be selling for 14,000 Yen (about $120 US). The Enjoyment Plus Pack which includes a Game Boy Player and Memory Card 251 will be reduced a little sooner on October 10th for a price of 19,800 Yen (about $170 US).

Mario isn’t the only thing in red right now.

Nintendo has projected a net loss for the first time in its publicly-owned history. Earlier today, Nintendo regrettably informed its investors that instead of the 15 billion yen profit predicted earlier for the fiscal half-year, the company expects to suffer a loss of 3.0 billion yen (around $27 million). Nintendo is currently 7 million yen into the red.

Atari has a new website set up for Mission: Impossible - Operation Surma.

Atari announced today that its official website for Mission: Impossible - Operation Surma is now up. The site features screenshots, videos, message boards, and more.

M:I - Operation Surma is set for release before the holidays on Game Boy Advance, while the GameCube version is arriving a little bit later, in 2004.

Sega of America is under new management yet again.

Details are finally surfacing on Nintendo's first Bemani game.

Japanese gaming site Quiter (link above) is reporting that the new issue of Dorimaga magazine has a load of information on Nintendo's upcoming music game, Donkey Konga.

Apparently, up to four players can participate in the game's selection of 32 songs, which range from kids' songs to pop, latin, and dance music. There is also a game mode like Donkey Kong Junior; perhaps you control the younger gorilla by keeping up with the beat.

Nintendo's official website says so.

Nintendo of America's official website now lists a Q1 2004 release date for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. The game was previously expected to come out before the end of the year in North America.

Nintendo.com does occasionally contain errors, though we doubt it's the case here. However, PGC will be checking up on this story with Konami and Silicon Knights for confirmation and further information.

GAME BOY ADVANCE SP SHINES AT FROSTFRENCH SHOW

Game Boy Advance SP, the most stylish games console in the world, last night made its fashion debut at London Fashion Week.

Game Boy Advance SP joined in the fun at the star-studded Frostfrench catwalk show at The Royal Horticultural Centre, London.

Konami has updated their official website for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes with the new trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show. This new trailer shows off a ton of action sequences, which have been directed by acclaimed Japanese action film director Ryuhei Kitamura. Be warned though, because this trailer contains a good deal of spoilers. So, watch at your own risk.

Nintendo blazes into new market territory with a very interesting product.

China is well known as a breeding ground for software pirates and pirating tools, a fact Nintendo is all too familiar with. With its large population China is potentially a very lucrative market, however, and Nintendo proved its determination to reach Chinese homes yesterday at the Tokyo Games Show 2003 with its untraditional new console, the iQue Player. At TGS, Bandai is showing off special "Char" editions of the GameCube and GBA SP. "Char" refers to Char Aznable (aka "The Red Comet"), a character from the Gundam universe's Duchy of Zeon. Like most of these special editions, these red beauties probably won't make it out of Japan, but at least you can take a nice long look at them here thanks to GAME Watch.
