Wii, DS Top Sales in November, NSMB Wii Hits 2 Million

November's NPD numbers show strong sales for Nintendo consoles and software, and Mario is actually doing better than advertised.

Despite a downturn in video game console sales from November 2008, the Wii and DS sold well in November 2009, sitting atop the hardware sales chart. New Super Mario Bros. Wii also hit a sales milestone.

New Motion-Sensing DSiWare Game Announced

The new game from HI Games will sharpen your dinosaur-dodging skills.

Yesterday HI Games announced a new DSiWare title that will use the built-in camera to perform motion sensing using the Motion Cortex engine from Realeyes3D.

The game does not use any buttons, but instead has you tilting the DSi to avoid a bite from a charging dinosaur. The touch screen uses arrows to give you an indication as to which way you should flick the system.

DS Breaks Sales Records in the UK DS

Nintendo's handheld beats PlayStation 2's sales records as it passes the 10 million mark.

MCV has confirmed that the Nintendo DS has surpassed the 10 million sold mark, with the official number being 10.5 million handhelds. This makes it the best-selling gaming system in United Kingdom history. The milestone happened in the system's 47th week at retail. The previous record holder was Sony's PlayStation 2, which to date has sold 10.2 million systems.

Ubisoft Announces Racquet Sports for Wii Wii

The sports title will use MotionPlus and the Your Shape camera for realistic sports action.

Ubisoft has announced a new game for Wii called Racquet Sports. The title will include tennis, ping pong, badminton, squash and beach tennis.

The game will be compatible with MotionPlus for more accurate swing movement, as well as Ubisoft's motion-tracking camera (bundled with the recently released Your Shape). Players will be able to participate in party and championship modes.

Sunsoft Acquires Nihon Telenet Game Library Wii

Move gives Sunsoft the ability to re-release, or even remake, all titles ever created by the defunct publisher.

After last week's announcement that they were bringing their classic title Blaster Master back on Virtual Console, Sunsoft followed it up this week with even bigger news. The company announced today that they have acquired the entire game library - including intellectual property rights – of defunct Japanese publisher Nihon Telenet.

Konami Bringing New Rhythm Game to DS in Japan

The game will have you touching and/or singing the night away.

Konami has revealed information about an upcoming rhythm game for DS called Utacchi. The title, which combines the Japanese words for "touch" and "sing" will support up to four players. The game will have you focusing on something called the "Tacchii," interacting by either touching or singing.

Capcom Announces Mega Man 10 for WiiWare Wii

Nintendo Appeals French Court Ruling

Not Guilty ruling for DS flash card maker Divineo will be appealed.

Nintendo announced that they intend to support the appeal of a ruling in favor of Divineo, a company that develops flash cards for use in the Nintendo DS.

The rulingwas handed down December 4 with comments from the judge that Nintendo should allow a more open development policy with its systems, much like Microsoft has done with Windows where anyone can develop for the OS.

Dragon Quest IX Subtitle Trademarked in North America DS

Sentinels of the Starry Skies looks to be the title for the localized release.

Square Enix has trademarked the title Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies in North America, after a similar trademark filing in Europe last week fueled suspicion that the game's title would be the same in both territories.

Nothing has been made official by Square Enix yet, including the fact that the game will even be released outside Japan, but it seems very likely at this point that an announcement will be coming soon.

Brownie Brown Announces Kappa Michi DS

The Nintendo-published game will be hitting DSiWare today in Japan.

Brownie Brown has announced a new DSiWare game titled Kappa Michi (translation: Kappa Road), which hits the DSi store in Japan today.

The game involves kappas, Japanese mythological creatures. Using the stylus, the player draws roads for their big-headed kappa to travel to a goal, while avoiding dangerous traps and other obstacles. Along the way, baby kappas can be found that will need rescuing.

Game Informer recently caught up with Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya, former development director of Capcom classics Viewtiful Joe and Okami. Brawl is dethroned in Japan by the latest Mario adventure.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has set the record for being the fastest-selling Wii title in Japan, according to a famitsu.com article, with 936,734 units sold in only four days. The previous first-week record was held by Super Smash Bros. Brawl, released in January 2008, which sold 816,000 units in its first week of release.

Dragon Quest VI Communicates in Standby Mode DS

The Square Enix title lets other players visit your game, even with the lid closed.

Upcoming Square Enix RPG remake Dragon Quest VI will communicate with other players via Wi-Fi, even when the system is closed and in standby mode. The feature, called Surechigai, happens in the background as you pass other players on the street. A similar feature was included in Dragon Quest IX, which was released in Japan last July and allowed players to visit each other's copy of the game and search for treasure.
