Sammy-Sega Holdings Logo Get! Also, Sega’s development teams undergo more reorganization.

Sammy and Sega today revealed the logo for their new corporate parent, Sammy-Sega Holdings. Sammy and Sega will become one in October as a subsidiary of the company still in creation.

Samy-Sega Holdings

Commencing business with an impressive 10 billion ($91 million) yen in capital and fifty employees, Sammy and Sega anticipate their combined income for fiscal year 2005 will be as high as 510 billion yen ($4.4 billion). Sega-Sammy Holding’s board members will include Sammy and Sega chairman Hajime Satomi, Sega president Hisao Oguchi, and various Sammy and Sega directors. Sega’s boardroom will see a major overturn, with only Satomi, Oguchi, and Sammy executive Yoshiharu Suzuki remaining.

Sega’s R&D teams, which were divided into separate companies in the Dreamcast era, will also be brought back under Sega’s roof to create a stronger Sega identity.

"I feel that Sega has high individual capabilities, but it's too separated into different subsidiaries," commented Satomi on the remerger of Sega’s subsidiaries. "Sega wasn't able to create an overall corporate strategy or [a sense of] uniformity because of that, which is a major reason behind the company's stagnation. Oguchi himself has been feeling the same way. It's about time that we returned back to the old [structure of] Sega."

Sega did not mention whether it plans to reorganize the development teams (again) during the reconstructive process.

OH GOD WHAT HAVE SAMMY DONE? It was bad enough when Konami decided to go BORING style with their logo, but to kill off the classic Sega logo and replace it with this joint filth is ewwww. >=O

NinGurl69 *hugglesJune 02, 2004

It seems to promote clean water and tree-hugging.
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH MAKING GREAT GAMES?!

I want Shenmue III on GameCube, right after Zelda.

No no, this is the logo for the PARENT company. They aren't getting rid of Sega or Sammy's logo.

RABicleJune 02, 2004

Even so, it looks crap. I bet they paid a graphic designer $4000 just to make this crappy logo. I hate capitalism.
The best redesigned logo of recent times is Ubisoft's logo.

Please, don't make me cry.....and have to think of getting an xbox to play Shenmoo III.

No, with all of the corporate moolah flying around for "re-branding" purposes, they probably paid a design firm $50-100k for the logo.

I'm hoping all this restructuring stuff will piss off some of Sega's top designers like Suzuki and Naka and cause them to leave and join with Nintendo. Well okay Suzuki probably wouldn't join Nintendo but Naka might. Imagine a 3D Yuji Naka game where the camera doesn't suck. That's the potential that could be realized with a Naka/Nintendo union.

Now obviously this type of defection would hurt Sega a lot but I figure they're doomed anyway and we might as well salvage their top guys while we can. Sammy's a bunch of pachinko dorks who apparently want Sega to focus on arcade gaming. In other words under Sammy Sega's presence in North America will be virtually non-existant. Sammy's going to kill Sega or turn them into something else. To keep the Sega "style" alive some of their designers are going to have to jump ship.

Yeah, this logo does kinda look like poo. The gradients are very amatuerish, and it feels like it was whipped together in 10 minutes with Corel Draw or something.

Although to be fair, the graphics designer was probably bowing to what the corporate customer wanted. I know I've had that happen to me before, the client keeps making changes to your work until it's ruined.

We like to call it Michael Jackson Nose Syndrome. face-icon-small-wink.gif

I haven't heard any news of canceled games (I WANT MY MONKEY BALL 3) but we also haven't really heard any news about old game either.

I'll see how things work out. Sammy is a company with some unique games, so I really odn't see them limiting sega that much. (Hell, they still make the guilty gear games with sprites) I'm more worried about the "merging all of sega's devolopement houses together" than most other things.

couchmonkeyJune 02, 2004

Sheesh! I think it looks good. It looks two S's spooning. Mmmmm...spooning. But yes, the old Sega logo was better.

Then you completely boycott it and prove to Sega it's not worth it!

I WENT AS FAR AS BUYING SHENMOO II (UK) FOR DREAMCAST FOR $90 OFF EBAY LAST SUMMER.

Uncle Rich AiAiJune 02, 2004

I'm not gonna boycott Shenmoo (if it's an xbox exclusive). No way. It will break my heart more to not get an xbox and not play Shenmoo III, than to sell my soul to MS. I got Shenmoo II for DC off ebay too, nearly 2 years ago. It was worth every penny! face-icon-small-thumbsup.gif

Oh really? Most of Sega's profit come from the arcade sector, not the console sector. It is obvious why Sammy wants Sega to focus more on arcades; to maximise profits. Regardless of whether you like it or not.

Don't listen to AiAi, He's mad I tell you. Look he's got an Edd icon, which even her own father can't distinguish her gender face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I don't see why Sega doesn't bring Shenmue and Panzer Dragon to GameCube. It surely didn't sell all that well on Xbox, why would the sequels will too?

Bah I think Sega has flipped and has trying to destroy themselves from within.

Sega needs to go back to the old days, when they actually had great stuff.

My last post was looking at the situation from a business perspective, not a fan's perspective. That's all. If you want me to discuss this from a fan's perspective, I'll be bitching all day. face-icon-small-cool.gif

I live...again.

I go away for a while and the wide world of Nintendo evolves. I missed the the 'reggie-lution' phonomenon...

Anyway, Looks like Sega's Business sense(or lack of it) is desperately trying to do something. I think its trying to save itself, but being radically changed in the process....

I'm pretty sure with Sammy at the helm, Nintendo support may be 'iffy' at best. I'd be greatful to see Shenmue III on any system at this point....

Oh well, the Sammy-Sega saga continues (alliteration intended)

While we're at it, may I suggest this logo instead?
