Beta release looms and Mario Kart plays it smooth.

The guys behind the Warp Pipe Project have updated their website with some news on the beta release in development. The program is currently running Mario Kart: Double Dash very smoothly across a distance of 250 miles, and optimization is continuing. You can download a movie of the current performance from their site at the link above.

In other news, the need for a router has been axed, so you can now use Warp Pipe with pretty much any broadband network/connection method. The beta will be released in the very near future, which will allow everyone to start playing Mario Kart (and Kirby Air Ride) online. The beta will continue to be updated on a regular basis, including upcoming support for 1080: Avalanche. Then version 1.0 will be released in spring 2004, which will include a front-end user interface and other additional features.

these guys are taking way to long. They are ready to release right now if u check on thier forums but instead they are waiting to add like 1 or 2 simple almost useless features.

I think they should Release the BETA RIGHT NOW as like beta v1.0 and they can just release a beta version 1.1 or whatever once they finish thos few extra things they want.

Its not like a video game were once its shipped its over with. They can update thier beta at any time to include more features.

they don't wannna look ad when they launch because if they do no one will use their service. ON Xbox everyone used Gamespy until XBoxConnect blew them out of the water

I watched a few videos of WPP in action with Mario Kart, seems nice, the framerate is understandable, but the sync seemed amazing. I cant wait to do one on one races with others.

Sad about how limited Mario Kart is with LAN play, but to go online or have big LAN parties, I'm all for it, but if Ninty could just go that extra mile...

Anybody got a video of it. I cant download from their site because of that stupid software they want everyone to use.

Heh. It's a lot of fun guys. Trust me. Besides it may come out earlier. Work on your Mario Kart skills right now offline while you still can. It's going to be an incredible experience once everything is go. Laters.
