20% off Sega Games, More Launch Night Happenings, and Release Dates Ahoy!

Discuss it in Talkback!

As the final GameCube launch creeps ever closer (FOUR DAYS! AIEEE!), more and more tidbits of news are being revealed. Here's some stuff for the locals to enjoy:

- If you're planning to purchase Super Monkey Ball or Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, you might want to consider heading over to distributor GameNation's website and signing up for their newsletter. Why? You'll be sent a 20% off coupon which you can use on any of their products (regardless of system). 20% off isn't that bad, and the only catch is that you must purchase what you want from Harvey Norman between May 11th to May 26th.

- The ever-generous Acclaim has given me some release dates for their products. "Absolutely, positively" confirmed at launch is Burnout, Crazy Taxi, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, Extreme G 3, NHL Hitz 20-02 and Universal Studios Theme Park Adventure. Due out in May is 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker and Jerry McGrath Supercross World, while in June there's Legends Of Wrestling, All Star Baseball 2003, Aggressive In Line, Red Card 20-03 and Spyhunter to look forward to.

- In other crazy launch antics, the Chadstone EB Luigi Lookalike contest has been replaced with a general Nintendo character lookalike contest. So you can now dress up as a a midget mushroom with a vest and Arabian pants. Don't worry if you had your Luigi costume all prepared, he's still a Nintendo character. Best dressed character wins either a GameCube or a GameCube bundle (it's still being decided).

A new "Smash Fest" contest has been created where there will be a round-robin Smash Brothers tournament on a big screen tv, and the final winner will go home with a bundle pack! Be sure to practice your Smash Bros. and join in on the night! Bowser kicks arse.

Activision has stepped up their promotion for the night (more games!), and there will be 4-6 GameCubes for play. If that wasn't enough, attendees get themselves showbags! Awesome!

- And finally ( I don't know how I missed this, but I did) Nintendo are holding a GameCube Challange at the Myer and Grace Bros respective Melbourne and Sydney city stores, inviting players to compete in a Wave Race: Blue Storm competition. Heats will be held on Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday 15th of May between 12.00pm and 2.00pm, with the finals being held on Thursday 16th of May at 11.00am. Heat winners will score the opportunity to play off against local AFL legends.

AFL gear, a trip to Sydney or Melbourne (depending on state of origin) to compete in the 'Nintendo GameCube Big Screen Footy Challenge' along with other merchandise and prizes are all up for grabs.
