There are video game journalists....and then there's Steven Kent. The big cheese sends off his birthday greetings!
There are a lot of reasons to take fan sites seriously. First off, big or small, famous or new, video game fan sites are created by people who love games and know the industry. It's a tough business. Fan
site audiences have hardcore passions and well-informed readers. It takes guts to launch such a site and real skill to keep one alive.
At a time in which larger and better funded sites are collapsing, Planet
GameCube has grown. For that alone, the people who run this site have my
respect. But Planet GameCube manages to keep ahead of the curve on industry
stories. It is a good source of information. Planet GameCube is an oxymoron--a fan site that often provides a balanced look at industry news. Okay, it's not completely balanced. Yes, Planet GameCube was, is, and always
shall be for folks who prefer Nintendo. But the fan site Nazi's seem a bit
more relaxed on Planet GameCube. On Planet GameCube you can say Nintendo
needs help without receiving 200 angry emails from froffing-at-the-mouth
fanatics who threaten to rape your dog.
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Planet GameCube. On a Net filled with angry fanatics, you
are a site for sore eyes.
