Nintendo Shows Appreciation for Pets!

Mario & Yoshi helped celebrate pets at the Paws/LA First Annual "Animal Companion Appreciation" Day!

Yesterday, Nintendo sponsored the first annual “Animal Companion Appreciation” Day festival hosted by Pets Are Wonderful Support-Los Angeles (PAWS/LA). The event had several events & special guests including soap opera stars, rescue dogs from Ground Zero NYC and even an appearance by Mario & Yoshi, who were on hand to promote Super Mario World: Mario Advance 2! Beth Llewelyn was on hand to make a donation to the PAWS/LA from Nintendo in an oversized check. Check out the full press release below for all the details!

Nintendo’s Mario Joins His Pet Companion Yoshi from Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 to Show Appreciation for Pets

WHAT:

They’re snuggly, they’re loyal, they’re loving and they are always there for us. They are our pets and they deserve our appreciation. The “Animal Companion Appreciation” Day festival hosted by Pets Are Wonderful Support-Los Angeles (PAWS/LA) and sponsored by Nintendo® celebrates all of our furry and feathered friends. Heather Tom, two-time Emmy Award winning actress of “The Young and the Restless,” David Tom, Emmy Award winning actor of “The Young and the Restless,” Nicholle Tom, actress, West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman, as well as other Tinseltown’s stars will be there to support PAWS/LA along with Nintendo’s Mario and his animal companion Yoshi from the just-released Super Mario World™: Super Mario Advance 2 game for Game Boy® Advance. Mario will welcome Search and Rescue dogs that worked at the Ground Zero site when they make a special appearance with their trainers. A pet psychic and Mario will give free pet readings. Pet therapists, celebrity dog trainers, obstacle courses, veterinarians and more will be on hand as well. Mario will have Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 available for pet owners play on-site. The event is free, as are the pet-related goodies.

    BACKGROUND:

    Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 is rated E for Everyone, and was released on February 11 with an MSRP of $29.95. The game is a recreation of the wildly popular Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System®, and includes two games in one with the inclusion of the classic Mario Bros.® arcade game. Founded in 1989, PAWS/LA is a non-profit agency that provides supplies pet food and supplies to more than 1,700 people with HIV/AIDS or other disabling, life-threatening illness and their 2,400+ companion animals by supplying food and supplies. PAWS/LA will present its Abigail Award to John Heilman, Mayor of West Hollywood, thanking the city for its progressive policies towards companion animals, recognizing their contribution to the well being of the community. PAWS/LA is the only non-profit organization in the greater Los Angeles area that provides this service.
