Violent Video Game Protection Act

If this bill is passed, it could become illegal to sell a violent game to a minor in Georgia ...

Four Georgia Representatives recently sent a bill before the Georgia State Legistature proposing a "Violent Video Game Protection Act". This bill would, if enacted into law, make it illegal to sell (or "furnish") a violent video game to children.

Using the ESRB ratings as a guideline, it would be a misdemeanor to sell, rent, or loan (in exchange for money) a game to anyone under 18 that contains graphic violence (pretty much ANY "M" rated game).

While the law does have a possibly odd provision of repealing any law that would conflict with this act, it seems on it's face to be a fairly limited and straightforwarded bill. While it's not going to stem the flow of violence in society (games don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people), any law that would enforce ratings and make retailers pay attention to what they're selling can't be all bad.
