According to Nintendo of America, the Gamecube is selling at an extremely high rate.
KA-CHING! NINTENDO GAMECUBE Selling Nonstop At Rate of 27 Per Minute
Retailers Report 600,000 Sold in First Two Weeks
REDMOND, Wash.--Dec. 3, 2001--Nintendo of America reported today
that, based on direct communications with its retailers, its new
NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) home video game console has reached sales of
nearly 600,000 units in America in 15 days, or an average of 27 per
minute -- nonstop -- since its November 18th introduction.
"Both in terms of total units sold to date and even more so in the
comparative number of units we're selling per day, NINTENDO GAMECUBE's
advantages in game quality and affordability are being amply
demonstrated in stores across America," says Peter Main, executive
vice president sales and marketing, Nintendo of America. "In short,
although launching at retail three days following the Microsoft X-box,
it seems apparent that we have sold through to consumers more game
consoles than they have even been able to deliver to retail outlets."
Because Microsoft has declined to estimate its actual consumer
sales numbers, no fully accurate picture of comparative market
activity is yet available. That data won't be available until The NPD
Group releases its full projected sales report for the month of
November in the next few weeks. For example, NPD's sample does not
reflect system sales at Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer, and
also the largest retail outlet for NINTENDO GAMECUBE.
The current available TRSTS retail data is just a snapshot. Only
when NPD can project sales from all retailers -- even those outside
their store sample -- can they reach an accurate picture of what's
really happening in the market.
A dedicated game play system, NINTENDO GAMECUBE delivers new forms
of interactive fun for players and offers the easiest development
environment for game creators. The system's embedded memory,
proprietary optical disc and innovative controller were designed to
optimize the game play experience. Nintendo GameCube is available in
two colors: Jet (black) and Indigo (violet) for a suggested retail
price of $199.95.
As the worldwide leader and innovator in the creation of
interactive entertainment, Nintendo Co. Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan,
